It's the atmosphere- at any given time there are more than enough aircraft over your head in Ohio to fill the sky with contrails were atmospheric conditions perfect. Such perfect conditions don't happen every day so you're just not used to it. On most days- most are imperfect days for contrail formation- you just don't notice the planes passing overhead.

Is Art Bell still alive and on the same topic he was on 8 yrs ago or something?

Thanks to you both. My intention for asking the question wasn't to get people riled up but to provide an educated explanation to the radio dude who IS trying to get people riled up. You should hear this guy - he's got people monitoring short wave radio for military airbase transmissions and other sensationalist stuff.

In reality, the fact that the contrails are criss-crossing in every direction makes perfect sense that it would just be atmospheric...because that's what we would see. Thanks for the confirmation.
