A 20-year-old man who pleaded no contest to burglarizing the home of a woman whose pet Chihuahua was stuffed in a freezer during the burglary was sentenced Tuesday to serve two years in a state prison. The sentence was part of a plea bargain Deavean Irvin of Lancaster made with prosecutors during his preliminary hearing Feb. 21. Irvin originally pleaded not guilty to residential burglary at his arraignment.
In exchange for dropping a grand theft charge, Irvin pleaded no contest to residential burglary at Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse in Lancaster. Irvin was not charged with cruelty to animals.
If Irvin had declined the deal offered by prosecutors, he faced up to six years in prison, said Deputy District Attorney Steven Heller .
Irvin and four teenage boys were arrested after deputies found one burglar exiting the residence in east Lancaster.
The burglary was called in by a neighbor, who phoned authorities after seeing intruders enter the home in the 3300 block of East Avenue K-8.
Homeowner Kimberly Holzer , whose Air Force husband is deployed in Afghanistan, was at work when the burglars broke in and stole DVDs, video games and a camera, in addition to ransacking her home.
They also urinated on her maternity clothes and stuffed her 2-year-old Chihuahua, Roxy, into a freezer.

This illustrates the sad state of current "journalism".
Every article I have read about this story neglects to mention whether the chihuahua survived the freezer experience --- or not.
I was wondering about the dog, too.
A veterinarian checked the dog and said she came through the ordeal in good condition.
Good.
I ran over my own cat yesterday so I'm a bit sensitive to animals today.
