He has to pay even if Florida now considers his ex wife a "he." There is no prohibition in the law against a man paying alimony to a man who used to be a woman. Yes, it is true a man can't marry another man, but that's not what happened in this case. He married a woman, who after the divorce had an operation some believe converted this woman into a man. I'm with you, she's nothing but a mutilated female. But, even if she is now to be considered a man in the eyes of the law, nothing about that relieves this man of his obligation to pay alimony. If the Florida legislature decides to write a law declaring that sex change operations on the part of an alimony payee relieve the payor of his or her obligation to pay, then there might be a different outcome in these cases. (Although such a law probably could not apply retroactively and this lady/man/whatever would likely still be entitled to her/his alimony payments.) Until a new law comes out that says otherwise, people who find themselves in this position will be stuck paying their ex spouses, even if their ex's are now of the same sex as them.

I'm not obsessed with this case, just frustrated by these "legal conclusions" you are reaching without providing any basis in law for them. You, like this guy trying to weasel out of his alimony payments, have no leg to stand on in your arguments. You do, however, have a right to your opinion. I'm obviously not going to change your opinion, so it is rather pointless for me to continue offering rational arguments to counter your feelings and uninformed opinions. We can just wait and see how this Florida court rules on this matter. My bet is that just like an Ohio appeals court ruled in 2004, a sex change operation by an ex spouse is enough not relieve the other of a preexisting alimony obligation.

Here's a link to the Ohio case in case you are interested: http://www.sconet.state.oh.us/rod/newpdf/2/2004/2004-ohio-5293.pdf

Alimony for life ... is this state a crazy state or what? I dont care if she became a he or whatever. Alimony for life ? Men have to work their butt off earning money and lazy ex-wives can sit on their couch and count the dollars without doing anything herself or for the ex-husband. Some MAN's WORLD -- love to live in this MAN's WORLD. We should immediately STOP ELECTING MALE politicians. They are the culprits. They try to make these anti-male laws so keep their wives happy. Wake up - men.
