ELIZABETHTON - Carter County deputies said a toe found under an overturned tow truck pointed to the suspect in an unusual crime last week.
The investigation began on Thursday when Carter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Patrick Johnson discovered the overturned tow motor lying in the middle of Sand Mine Road in the Stoney Creek section of the county. Johnson began investigating the wreckage and discovered a pair of shoes and socks wedged between the machinery and the pavement. The equipment was too heavy to retrieve the abandoned footwear.
Johnson spoke with the owner of the tow motor, Dale Blevins, who told him the machine had been parked at his business the last time he saw it.
While Johnson was conducting his investigation, Deputy Jeff Markland was called to the emergency room of Sycamore Shoals Hospital to investigate the statements of a patient who said he had been involved in a hit-and-run accident on Panhandle Road.
Markland met with Claude White, 34, 208 Lovers Lane. White said he was walking on Panhandle Road when someone ran over his feet and tore off one of his toes.
Markland then talked with White's wife, Josie, who said she had dropped her husband off on Sand Mine Road to drink with his friends. Markland then passed the information on to Johnson for his investigation.
Johnson waited until tow trucks were able to lift the heavy tow motor into an upright position. Johnson then returned to the mashed shoes and discovered a toe had been left inside one of the shoes.
"Due to the overwhelming evidence from the scene and the statement from Josie White, Claude White is charged with theft over $10,000 and filing a false report," Sgt. Kenny Cornett said in the arrest report.

I really should not laugh, but this guy makes it too easy
You gotta laugh at what some folks come up with under the influence.
under a Toetruck? (too easy...)
Done some dumb things myself, but never ended up with name in the papers
And that, my FRiend us a notable accomplishment.
Another thing about these stories, the perps always have unusual names and/or addresses
I guess hes all righty then? </bada bing>
Only in Tennessee {rolling eyes here}. Yep, we do have some strange town and street names here.
We had an incident locally yesterday when a local farmer and his girlfriend were driving a tractor while under the influence. He was driving and she was standing on the platform and leaning against the fender. He ran out of the road, down an embankment and hit a tree. It threw her off and the tractor rolled over on her and killed her. When the Sheriff interviewed him, he told him that he didn’t know who she was or where he found her. After the farmer sobered up he told the real story and now he’s in jail.
Stupidity happens all over, some are more tragic than others. Farmer mentioned in your post actually owned up to issue. Not always the case.
They were waiting fore the TOE truck to show up. (This was much too easy)
Idiot Editor Alert!
It's not a "tow motor." "Towmotor" is a brand of forklift. Or in this case, it could be called a "ToeMotor."
Around here, we know what we are talking about
I remember when Towmotor was the generic term for any forklift, at least at the places in Nashville where I had summer jobs.
