"This was just too awesome to go without posting. All kids remember popping open one of those boxes, taking out all of those blister kits and begin piecing together a car. This 1:1 model scale 1940 Ford was the work of the St. Joe Valley Street Rod Club in South Bend, Indiana. The setup is complete with a giant X-acto knife, Testor's paint and glue. Add it all to another lonely Friday night and this is pretty much my childhood. –Travis Hudson"

All kids remember popping open one of those boxes, taking out all of those blister kits and begin piecing together a car.

The real fun came with swapping parts out of finished models.

You’re welcome.
I love old cars and car shows in general.

Exactly what i was thinking. I used to make tons of balsa planes and model rockets, and got high bigtime off the glue. Never intentionally, though.

Do they still sell that stuff, or can you only get the crap that doesn’t work?

I have sons (and a daughter on the way,) but I never was any good at putting them together anyway.

The car models, that is...

Congrats on the impending arrival!

I never got into the car models, they seemed too easy and boring. I used to do balsa and doped tissue paper planes with the multiple rubber cords. Did an RC once, but it was more cash than I wanted to spend, and i destroyed it on it’s first flight.

Thanks!

That reminds me of the model rockets my brother and I used to build...

That's great. Here is One I did last year to pass the time on vacation. The glue by the way still stinks. ;)
