As we settle into the nighttime of despair, fret not, for the Sun will rise again!!
Good morning!!
We, here, will never forget those who died on September 11, 2001, as we seek to protect the Republic from all who will do her harm!!
WE THE PEOPLE...
It's doesn't say "we, some of the people", or "we the people who are priviledged", or "we the elite people", just, simply, "we the people". The connotation is clear, the United States Constitution is a contract between the people the Government meant to serve those people.
The Reverend (we'll leave it at that, even though no person can find a record of his ordination nor of the church he leads...) Al Sharpton, however, seems to have misplace his version of the Constitution, thinking the beginning says "we the people, so long as you say the right things...".
The flap currently going on with Imus was playing out, up to yesterday, exactly where it should have been--in both the free market of ideas, and the free market of the economy. No right minded person would defend what Imus had said as being appropriate in a culture that values all human beings--we the people. The reaction to his remarks was, in the context of things, probably appropriate--even Imus says he said "a dumb thing."
Yes, MSNBC and CBS were probably on the right side of things by dropping Imus, but it had probably less to do with the quality of the remarks by Imus than by how they foresaw their wallets being affected by sponsors; in other words, an economic decision. Fine, no problem with that, MSNBC and CBS have the right to make money.
Problem is, the matter is not staying in the private sector. Here we have Al Sharpton waxing on in his usual bombastic manner about how we "must have a broad discussion on what is permitted and not permitted in terms of the airwaves"; in other words, "we the people, so long as you say the right things".
This is a breathtaking proposition. It is presumed Al Sharpton must mean this is the province of the Federal Communications Commission--in other words, the Government. After all, that's the only entity that really has control of the airwaves--and even the Supreme Court has acknowledged that radio transmissions through the air are the plaything of the Government. But even if the FCC doesn't decide that it should take the matter up, not to worry, there are enough liberals in the Congress, and they are in charge, the matter may get forced in that venue.
The Thought Police are really getting a shot in the arm on this one. "We the people, provided you say the right things...". Never mind the damage it does to the First Amendment, that is, after all, merely a scrap of paper when it gets in the way of whacking the speech of someone the left finds objectionable.
And it is only the left that gets to have it's hay in this regard.
The right is still awaiting apologies for Al Sharpton's remarks about the Duke basketball players.
The right is still awaiting apologies for Hymietown.
The right is still awaiting apologies for all the Catholic bashing that is allowed on the airwaves.
In other words, equal justice, equally applied. Another quaint little item tucked in that "scrap of paper" in the 14th Amendment. The thought police won't have that, however. It's all right to bash those of European heritage, but say something bad against a minority? Hate crime, hate thought; an animus that must be stamped out.
Let's recall Voltaire: I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Or, more to the point, Jefferson: the antidote for bad free speech isn't to restrict free speech, it is more free speech.
Something the left just doesn't get.
Because they don't get "we the people" either.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
LET'S ROLL!!!
Hi!
I'm not holding my breath waiting for the Left to apologize for some of their Bush hate speech...What about that??
Good morning ell!
Great start, Chair.
I have no problems with Imus being fired whatsoever. But I’d like those rules of decency to be applied fairly and it’s provably true that they are not applied fairly.

The victimhood claimed in this country has gone so far over the top, I’m not sure we can ever recover. We’ve become a country of weenies.
Good for you. Congratulations!!
You should be extremely proud of yourself.
And that's the bottom line, they are all about DISRESPECT for America and all it stands for!
prairiebreeze, that point counting is a MUST. I save my flexpoints for a day when I have to eat something I know is fattening. I have already used my flex points due to Easter, so I am staying on the straight and narrow.
Be careful about reading labels. I was using Dannon fat-free yoghurt but switched to Kroger's brand because it was cheaper. I just checked the label this morning and 1 cup is 2 points instead of the 1 of Dannon! Yikes!
Here are my top non-WW foods to help dieting:
Jello fat-free sugar-free instant pudding. If you make it with skim milk, one serving =1 point. I can eat half of a box for 2 points! Great for chocolate craving.
Cheese Whiz (Yes, I am not kidding.) Cheese whiz is 1 point per tablespoon. Check the label if you don't believe me.
Lo-fat sugar free yoghurt. A great breakfast or snack is 1 cup of strawberry yoghurt with 1 cup of sliced strawberries and 1/2 cup of Fiber One Cereal...2 or 3 points depending on the yoghurt, because...
Fiber One ceral by General Mills is 1/2 cup for ZERO points because it has so much fiber and is made with Splenda!
Subway veggie sandwiches made with vinegar and no oil. 5 points...7 if you add the cheese.
I also have developed a taste for roasted asparagus (0 points) and roasted potatoes with Parmesan and Italian spices (2-3 points depending on potato size).
In addition, I have about 50 chicken recipes. Bwack!
Hope this helps. My DIL has lost 20 points and I am so proud of her. It is REALLY hard to do this when you have 3 kids who are eating Easter candy, etc.
Oh...one other thing...Hostess has made 100 calorie cupcakes which are 3 small iced, filled cupcakes per serving. If you get the chocolate ones they are only 1 point because they are high in fiber.
Now I have to go to get my hair cut and colored. I will check in this afternoon.
Good Morning All. Chair thank you for getting us together, as I’ve said before, you’re a gem,
Imus NOT listen to Roomey’s tv news. Imus NOT. Too much imus.
Not only has the left bashed our President, but I think they once called Gen Powell a “house slave”. They’ve also called Condi Rice names and even had cartoons depicting her in an unfavorable way. Name calling is their way of trying to embarrass people, not realizing they are showing their arrogance and ignorance. But hey, these are the very people who are wringing every penny they can from corporations by accusing them of dissing minorities. These are the millionairs who are telling the uneducated minorities they are being put upon by America.
Not to brag, okay, maybe a little, but after peaking at 233 lbs, I’m sitting comfortably at 170 a decade later.
WOW! Brag all you want to ABG. You’re entitled after losing 63 pounds. At 170 lbs. you’re a svelte studmuffin (like Rave). LOL
We are aware that many people are concerned about various aspects of television programming, and we appreciate your taking the time to express your views to us. Please be assured that we will share your comments with the people involved
My webmail account that I keep for just such activism purposes had about a dozen responses from various sponsors today and I've deleted several. Many try an deflect a little responsibility by asserting that they don't know when their advertising will air (probably true), and that they aren't responsible for television content (not entirely true).
Bottom line, they are ALL forwarding (they say) the messages to their marketing depts and I'm certain ABC has been feeling the heat at well.
I just wish I had time to respond to some of these "blanket" statements they make, alas I don't.
Thanks IG, the hard work starts now IMO. Keeping it off.
MM, thanks for all the tips. Not sure why I’ve gotten more slack with tracking and measuring, been pretty busy for one thing, that that’s not a good excuse. It’s an excuse, but not a good one :^)
Oatmeal is a happy food, although one can’t live on it daily. 1 cup = 1 point. Also lite popcorn and YES! the sugarfree puddings.
Not sure if I mentioned that Blue Bunny Health Smart sugarfree ice cream bars...the chocolate/vanilla ones are 1 point and the entirely chocolate ones are.....zero points! Due to the dietary fiber.
Victims sell advertising, IMO.
Now THAT's an accomplishment. Whoo-hoo!
Thank you for sharing your concerns about Clorox's sponsorship of "The View." We appreciate feedback from consumers.
I am sorry to hear that you are displeased with our sponsorship of "The View." We select the programs that we sponsor very carefully, and we always strive to select programs that are consistent with our reputation as a manufacturer of quality products. Acceptable programs would not include shows that exploit race, religion or national origin, or shows that rely on unnecessary sex or violence to support their story line. On recorded programs, we also pre-screen scripts to ensure compliance with our corporate values.
Even while operating within these guidelines, however, we know our selection of programs will not always meet with every viewer's approval. Occasionally, questions of personal taste will arise, and some individuals may be offended by particular programming periods we have selected. Still, we do attempt to avoid placing our commercials around programs that will be offensive to substantial segments of the viewing audience.
We and many other companies are trying to select advertising in a responsible way, and we have expressed our views to the networks. Even so, we believe the best force for change is the television audience. For this reason, we urge viewers to let the networks know about their concerns and not to watch programs they find objectionable.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. Please feel welcome to contact us again, and we sincerely hope that you'll continue using The Clorox Company products with confidence.
Again, with the attempt to shift full responsibility to the networks, but these people aren't claiming they have no control over the time slots for their advertising..interesting.
You aren't bragging. You're stating a fact!!
What an absolutely tremendous accomplishment.
I'm ashamed to be associating with you guys. I eat when I'm stressed or depressed. I don't show any real symptoms of depression in the clinical sense of the term, but honestly, how could anyone in my shoes NOT be depressed? So I probably AM, and don't know it.
