OXFORD, Miss. — One month after leading the Ole Miss women’s basketball team to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1992, coach Carol Ross abruptly resigned Wednesday night. She is expected to make a formal announcement this afternoon at a press conference on campus.

Assistant coach Renee Ladner will be introduced as the team’s new head coach, according to a release from the university.

Ross, an Ole Miss graduate, spent the past four years coaching the Rebels to a 77-50 overall record. She was Florida’s head coach for 12 years before returning to her alma mater at the start of the 2003-04 season.

I wonder who she got caught with.

Or did a bigger college offer her more bucks. There was a Sports Illustrated article a few weeks ago, when UT picked up Duke's women's basketball coach, about how there are a ton of high-profile (read = lots of money) openings in women's basketball and that quite a few coaches would probably be breaking their contracts and jumping ship.

Maybe she was having an affair with the dismissed LSU coach?
