New Al-Qaeda tactics in the US? (Vanity)

On Friday, a tanker truck explodes in Houston closing down two interchanges in one of the busiest traffic areas in the country.

Story here.

Map here.

This morning a tanker truck explodes taking out two overpasses in one of the busiest traffic areas in the US.

Story here.

Map here.

Rather than attack innocent civilians have they decided to simply go after soft-target infrastructure?

Or is it just a coincidence?

No need for paranoia here. If you look at the pictures of where the tanker crashed it’s either an accident or the terrorist was an absolute moron.

No point in blowing yourself up on an exit ramp.

Nothing to see here.

Don’t be so fast to jump to conclusions. Remember the Cory Lidle crash?

I find it hard to conceive of structural steel melting at 5000 degrees and causing collapse of the structures. These overpasses were obviously wired with charges prior to the fires.

According to the Houston story, they weren’t offramps, they were interchanges between 59 and I-10 which, according to the maps I’ve seen is right in downtown Houston.

In Oakland, it was interchanges between I-80 and I-580, not offramps.

Pure speculation at the moment, I agree, but Infoplease lists the Oakland/San Francisco traffic as second and Houston as fifth worst traffic congestion areas in the country.

Keeping my mind open.

Closed for at least a day for repairs

Doesn't really sound like they collapsed.

Yeah, it would be the first time in history that fire ever melted steel...

The United States is a massive country with over 300,000,000 people. The terrorists are going to have to do better than take out a couple of highway overpasses to have any effect at all. In fact, all 9/11 did was make a few of us mad and that ended up with many of them dead.

I say a few of us because evidently even those attacks apparently weren't enough to wake up many of us. All in all, the 9/11 attacks were like a flea temporarily waking up and annoying a sleeping dog.

If this country ever decided to "wake up" for real, the terrorists will be exterminated off the face of the earth.

Yeah, I had that thought also and I wouldn’t have thought twice about it had it not been for the fact that these occurred in two of the countries largest ports.

Soft-target infra would be an excellent choice to hit, but claiming these were caused by Al Qaeda w/o evidence is going down the Rosie O’Donnell path...

Odd that you would mention Lidle. The news just broke that a St Louis Cardinal pitcher was killed in a car crash last night.

He [bin Ladend] added: "We are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy." He noted remarks by counterterrorism experts that al Qaeda's expenses in attacking America are a tiny fraction of the cost of Washington's counterterrorism efforts. "Every dollar of al Qaeda defeated a million [U.S.] dollars . . . besides the loss of a huge number of jobs.

"As for the size of the economic deficit, it has reached record, astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars. Even more dangerous and bitter for America is that the mujaheddin recently forced Bush to resort to emergency funds to continue the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, which is evidence of the success of the bleed-until-bankruptcy plan."

From the WaPo.

He said the overpass had already collapsed by 4:05 a.m.

Wait a minute!

There must have been charges placed on the support beams.

Everyone knows that a fuel fire can't melt steel and concrete.
