Lowe's Motor Speedway is once again the center of the NASCAR world, but should other tracks get to share in the all-star festivities?
That and much more this week-end when we take a break from points races and race for a million bucks instead and bragging rights.
Get DirecTv and you will get Speed Channel and all the other goodies for the same price.
Letting the fans vote on the # of drivers to invert is silly. In fact, the whole idea of inverting is unappealing to me.
If they’ve got to have an All-Star race, I’d like to see them race identically prepared cars, IROC style. Take the shops out of it for the All-Star and make it an event based on driver talent alone. It might be interesting to see older drivers on lesser teams doing well when no one has an equipment edge.
just to mix up the allstar race, they should run it with right hand turns...
now that would be entertainment!
LOL. and at halftime, switch cars!
Thanks for getting us going this week. :)
I can’t wait, Saturday night racing woohoo!!
Lot’s of special paint schemes under the lights. NO RAIN PLEASE!!!
Stewart to work as pit reporter for SPEED during Nextel Open: #20-Tony Stewart will work as a SPEED pit reporter during the Nextel Open, a qualifying event that moves the top two finishers forward into the Nextel All-Star Challenge. Nextel Cup Series drivers #99-Carl Edwards, #18-J.J. Yeley and #84-A.J. Allmendinger have all agreed to make themselves available as SPEED pit reporters for the Nextel All-Star Challenge if they do not advance to the main event.(SPEEDtv PR)(5-15-2007) Jayski

Top crew chiefs take wheel before All-Star Challenge
CONCORD, N.C. — The top crew chiefs in NASCAR Nextel Cup racing will trade their wrenches for driving suits during the inaugural Kobalt Tools Crew Chief Race on Saturday night, May 19, at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
The event will be the featured pre-race entertainment for the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge.
Utilizing Thunder Roadsters manufactured by 600 Racing and decaled to replicate the paint schemes of the Nextel Cup cars they oversee, the crew chiefs will compete in a 30-minute racing program that will include two qualifying heats and a feature race. The racing action will take place on the speedway’s quarter-mile oval, located on the frontstretch of the 1.5-mile track, and will be televised by SPEED.
“SPEED is really looking forward to covering the crew chiefs’ race,” said Hunter Nickell, SPEED’s executive vice president and general manager.
“In fact, the race will be featured live as part of NASCAR RaceDay All-Star Edition leading into the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge. We realize that some of the competitors host SPEED programs, but we assure fans we will be totally impartial. OK, mostly impartial.”
“These guys are all closet racers,” said H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “And they think they would be good drivers. Now they can show just how good [or bad] they really are.
“Mainly, it will be a lot of fun and we need more of that in our sport.”
Expected participants include: Alan Gustafson (No. 5), Billy Wilburn (No. 45), Chad Knaus (No. 48), Darian Grubb (No. 25), Gil Martin (No. 07), Jeff Hammond (SPEED Channel No. 11), Jimmy Elledge (No. 41), Kevin “Bono” Manion (No. 1), Larry McReynolds (SPEED Channel No. 28), Paul Andrews (No. 43), Scott Miller (No. 31), Steve Lane (No. 40), Steve Letarte (No. 24), Todd Berrier (No. 29) and Tony Eury Jr. (No. 8)??? I don’t think so.
“This is a very neat deal,” said former crew chief McReynolds, who now serves as a popular analyst for NASCAR on FOX and SPEED. “With everything going on, from the NASCAR Nextel Pit Crew Challenge to Saturday night’s big race, All-Star week is a very intense few days, even with no points on the line. Crew chiefs today get a lot of accolades and share in the spotlight, but this event will give them the unique opportunity to say, ‘Hey, I’m the best driving crew chief in NASCAR.’
“There will be a lot of smack talked in the garage area before and after this event. It’s about bragging rights. It’s like the Masters — those cats just want that green jacket. This is a great addition to NASCAR Nextel All-Star week activities.”
Larry Mac All Star BBQ On Speed now.
Question of the day. Who are the only drivers to have won this race on their first try?
Oh one more thing before I go, Bill Elliott will be in the 21 Wood Brothers car on a race by race basis using his champ provisional.
Please put in their comment section that the donation is in support of Jr. We're up to $4,000 in only a few days. :)
Yep in Nascar here today gone tomorrow.
Personally I will miss him, but not Jon Wood.
Have they said who’s house they are filming from?
Oohhhhhhh need ESad pics!! :)
Don’t look at Jayski or Fox etc if you don’t want to know who won the pit crew challenge.
Here’s an excellent article from Elliott Sadler
