Gay flamingos pick up chick

A pair of gay flamingos have adopted an abandoned chick, becoming parents after being together for six years, a British conservation organisation said Monday.

Carlos and Fernando had been desperate to start a family, even chasing other flamingos from their nests to take over their eggs at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge near Bristol.

But their egg-sitting prowess made them the top choice for taking an unhatched egg under their wings when one of the Greater Flamingo nests was abandoned.

The couple, together for six years, can feed chicks by producing milk in their throats.

"Fernando and Carlos are a same sex couple who have been known to steal other flamingos' eggs by chasing them off their nest because they wanted to rear them themselves," said WWT spokeswoman Jane Waghorn.

"They were rather good at sitting on eggs and hatching them so last week, when a nest was abandoned, it seemed like a good idea to make them surrogate parents."

Gay flamingos are not uncommon, she added.

"If there aren't enough females or they don't hit it off with them, they will pair off with other males," she said.

Only mammals have mammary glands that produce real milk. Birds produce what is called “crop milk,” food that is partly digested in the crop and then coughed back up and fed to fledglings.

I suppose a male flamingo can do that, although I haven’t found a source to confirm it. I think there are bird species where the mother and father share the duty of feeding their young.

All that said, it doesn’t have much bearing on whether this shows that homosexual behavior is “natural.” They are really desperate to prove that, but from either a religious or a Darwinian point of view, homosexuality is unnatural, because it involves sex without procreation and does not help preserve the species.

The ridiculous lengths “gay” (never mind what I really want to call it) promoters will go to to prove they’re all OK, natural and normal.

If it weren’t for the “Gay ‘90s” and the legacy since, we wouldn’t be hearing these pathetic attempts to normalize homosexual humans by telling stories of some few abnormal wildlife.

That’s funny, because birds do NOT have...those...things....that men so worship of themselves.

What birds have are cloaca, which I think in males means they have to “reverse balloon” it to use it for male purposes.

I’m not sure if a bird would go to all that trouble for sex.

As someone else indicated, it probably means no more than the 2 guys are just good buddies who have no women.

There are numerous animals that mate for life.

Yes, but they have the good sense not to demand that the rest of us recognize their relationship as marriage (under pain of being labled zooophobic).

Do the gay activists really think that it makes them seem more natural if there is evidence of homosexuality in the animal kingdom???

I've heard pro-homo cheerleaders claim exactly that on numerous occasions. I've also been told that it's mildly rude to laugh out loud while pointing at them in response.

That's what I figure. But it's a ridiculous argument. Whenever someone points out to me that such-and-such an animal is sometimes gay, I say, "And hamsters eat their young. What's your point?"
