Murder Suspect Accidently Released From Mercer County Jail

A man accidentally released from the Mercer County Jail, even though he's accused of killing two people and shooting another, remains on the lam.

Authorities say a series of "clerical errors" caused the error involving 19-year-old Dontay Brannon, who was mistakenly released Monday despite the murder charges.

Authorities say Brannon was taken that day to Hamilton police headquarters, where a relative paid 200 dollars in bail to get him released on burglary charges unrelated to the killings.

Authorities, including the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, have been searching for Brannon since it became known that he was on the streets.

Trenton Police Detail Arrests in

Four Homicides and Two Attempted Homicides

TRENTON - In recent days Trenton Police have arrested suspects in four homicides and two

attempted homicides, Director Joseph Santiago announced today. Three of the arrests are for

homicides in 2006, when there were 20 homicides in Trenton for the year. One homicide arrest was

for a killing in March, during which seven homicides were committed. Two suspects, Dontay

Brannon, 19, and a 17-year-old juvenile accomplice, are charged with one killing and an attempted

homicide. Brannon is also charged in a second homicide and the investigation is continuing into the

role played by an accomplice.

Of the six victims, five are known gang members and all have criminal histories. Of the six

suspects either under arrest or the subject of an arrest warrant, all are known gang members and all

have criminal histories.

“I applaud the skilled and tireless work of the detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau

that has brought these suspects to justice,’’ said Police Director Joseph Santiago. “An important

reason for this success is the daily collection and analysis of criminal intelligence. In 2005 this

Department arrested key leaders of nine street gangs and we have kept the pressure on gangs without

let-up. That pressure reduced violent crime last year but this list of victims and suspects proves once

more being killed, maimed or imprisoned are the likeliest outcomes for young men involved in street

gangs and crime. Trenton is a very safe city for people uninvolved in gangs and the drug trade.

Anyone knowledgeable about crime trends nationally knows that no place is safe for those who

are.’’

engage in street gangs and drug trade."

Investigation is continuing in all of the cases, said Detective Capt. Joseph Juniak, commander of the

Criminal Investigation Bureau. Anyone with information about a crime is urged to call the Trenton

of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects in

“These arrests are not the end of the investigations,’’ said Capt. Juniak. “In several cases we are

seeking additional suspects. A person of particular interest is Donnie Anderson, who is involved in

the shooting of James Clayton. We have a warrant for Mr. Anderson and we need information to

find him.” The cases and suspects are:

1. March 25, 2007: James Clayton, 24, was shot twice outside of the Kingsbury Square apartment

complex during a gang-related dispute that evolved into a robbery. On March 27, the U.S.

Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a suspect, Laray M.

Delee, 24. Police have a warrant for the arrest of Donnie Anderson, 21, last known to reside at

228 E. State Street. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is urged to contact Trenton Police. The

investigation was assigned to Detective John Delli.

2. March 26, 2007: Naquan Archie, 18, of Norway Avenue, a known member of the SMM faction

of the Bloods street gang was shot dead during a robbery at 11 Eisenhower Avenue. The U.S.

Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the suspect, Willie

James Yeager, 18, also a known SMM member, March 28. Another suspect is sought. The

investigation was assigned to Detective Chris Doyle.

3. June 24, 2006: Willie Tasheed Hill, 22, a known member of the “Fruit-town Brims” street gang,

was killed in the course of a personal dispute at the rear of 1230 East State St. The U.S. Marshals

New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and Trenton Police patrol units arrested

Terrance Lamont Travers, 28, a known member of the GKB Bloods faction, April 7, 2007. The

investigation was assigned to Detective Brian Egan.

4. November 3, 2006: Pierre Wilson, 22, was shot and severely wounded while being robbed in an

alleyway between 60 and 62 Bellevue Avenue. Dontay Brannon, 19, a known member of the

GKB faction of the Bloods street gang, and a male juvenile, 17, also a known GKB member, are

charged with the shooting. The investigation was assigned to Detectives John Delli and Edgar

Rios.

5. November 4, 2006: Terrance Darnell Williams, 33, a known member of the SMM faction of the

Bloods street gang, was shot dead during a robbery on the 300 block of Bellevue Avenue.

Dontay Brannon, 19, and a male juvenile, 17, are both charged with the killing. Both suspects

were incarcerated at the time of their arrests. Both suspects are known members of the GKB

Bloods faction. The investigation was assigned to Detective Edgar Rios.

6. November 30, 2006: David Campbell, 21, a known member of the SMM faction of the Bloods

street gang, was shot dead near the corner of Spring and Calhoun streets. Dontay Brannon, 19,

also a member of the GKB Bloods, is charged with the killing and second individual is sought.

The investigation was assigned to Detective Edgar Rios.

In March, Director Santiago created a Homicide Task Force comprised of the detectives in the

CIB Homicide Unit and detectives drawn from other sections of CIB, the Organized Crime Unit, the

Tactical Anti-Crime Unit and the Vice Unit. The members of the Task Force members are Capt.

Juniak, Capt. Robert Tedder, Lt. Stephen Varn, Sgt. Robert Rios, Sgt. Chris Doyle, Detective James

McMillan, Detective Edgar Rios, Detective Manuel Montez, Detective Brian Egan, Detective

Wilfredo Rodriguez, Detective Nathan Bolognini, Detective Luis Vega and Detective Gary Britton.

The U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and Mercer County

Sheriffs Department and Mercer County Prosecutors Office provided crucial support. MCPO

participants in all the investigations.
