13 Awesome Extensions for Firefox 2.0.0.4 ( some new ones I think )

Firefox has been my web browser for a couple years now, and I honestly cannot imagine using any other browser. It’s versatility and Lego style extensions make me feel like a geek in a toy store. Every few months, I head over to Mozilla’a Firefox Add-ons, and search through whatever new extensions are available. My largest problem is controlling myself, as I currently have 38 active add-ons. Many of these extensions I use on a regular basis, but a few I find come in handy on rare occasions…but what would I do if they weren’t there? I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the new Firefox 3 to leave alpha stage, as I hear it will be much lighter on resources. Just think, more add-on capacity! Here are some of my current favorite extensions…

IE Tab for Moz

IE7 doesn't always play nice with that extension. i had to remove it on my Windows Partition in order to stop IE7 from crashing.

I don’t think its THAT bad. I’m the first to concede FF has significant memory leak issues, but it does things like tabbed browsing better than the others and has better computability with many sites than browsers like Opera. I have bigger stability issues with OpenOffice.

I thought they had the memory leak issue addressed in one of the early 2.0 releases, but it has showed its ugly head again.

As of right now, I’m at 248M and some change, but my system is humming along fine at 512M RAM. I’ll put 2 gig in my next build and won’t worry about it.

I just want to ask: How does one know that one has a memory leak?
Does the browser bog down?

I watch its memory use in TaskMgr.

If you keep an eye on it, it will basically keep munching more and more memory.

Lucky. Im stuck at 1.5gb of ram and run SQL server studio, Outlook and VS2005. Thats like trying to run a car on an empty tank... Firefox really needs to fix that issue because i need that memory for my really memory/processor intensive apps. A web browser shouldnt be one.

I’ve been slowly upgrading my systems to AM2 and 2 Gig ...now have an abundance of memory resources....faster is good.,,,,,love my AMD64 3000+ running several dozen tabs in several windows with Beryl and Sabayon 3.3 ( Gentoo based Linux system)

Was just trying NOScript.... Wonder if some one has used it?

I've used NoScript for over a year. It's great for websites that use scripts to get around your pop-up blocker (Drudge does that.) NoScript is very annoying until you've built up your list of "allowed" sites.

Provides a killfile for certain blogs. Covers livejournal, haloscan comments, most typepad blogs, most blogspot blogs, scienceblogs.com, and more as I add them. Trolls can be killfiled with a single click.

Suit yourself- don't use it.

I had quit visiting Free Dominion, despite being one of the founders there, until they instituted an "ignore" button.

For paying members, only. Makes a nice incentive to support a board.

Now, it's the first site I go by, every morning.

For me, at least, it made all the difference in the world.

And I'm still going to bug Jim about it, every fundraiser.

Not me, I am barely computer literate. I have stayed away from IE and Word as much as I could. Sometimes a site will make me use IE. I have used firefox for about five years and I am going to go get some of those add ons! If I had more money and savy I would probably be a zealot.

Same here.IE pushed the suck button too many times.Been FF for two years and love it.Microsoft is to nosy for me.When i use it,I feel like they are spying on me.And they probably are.

Oh please. Google or any one of those extension you willingly slap on FF could be more dangerous than IE in terms of tracking what you are doing. I use FF, I use IE. I use each according to my need. Why does this need to be some pissing contest?
