More thunderstorms moving up from the southeast, I think. I’m trying to arrange for Bill to drum at church today or tomorrow; most of the staff took the week off!

Morning, all.

Sorry I’m “late.” I had to run some errands before it gets too hot. People get stupid in the heat, so I try to do things in the early morning, lest I become one of the stupids... ;o]

It’s already 97, and the pundits say, “111!” before days’ end. I kept hoping it would stay below 110 until the 5th, so I could win an iPod and $100 in gas, but it looks like I’m going to miss it by at least one day. *sigh*

Ohwell... :o|

Time for Vlad’s nap. Then we have to go to Wal-mart.

You might try running that like through “tinyurl.com”; I think some of it might have been left behind on the copy/paste.

Dang... I checked it before I posted it.

Morning, 'Face! Just coming to after a long day yesterday.

We were gong to drive halfway home yesterday going the "back route," longer but more scenic, the way we went down due to reports of much freeway construction in southern Oregon, and then check into a motel and finish the journey today. Deadline was to get home by 4 PM, though, because we have a political fundraiser this evening with some politicians we need to talk to.

Early evening I assessed our situation and realized we could get home by 2 AM if we diverted back to I-5, figuring traffic would be light enough that the construction wouldn't delay us. That's what we did, and though there was LOTS of construction we sailed on through and rolled in at 1:58 AM.

But when we go down again in 3-1/2 weeks it'll be the back way again.

So I'm just getting going and even a fresh cup of coffee isn't waking LoM.

Good to see you!

It sounds like your plan was the best one, and I’m glad you got home safe and sound.

Get some rest (or more coffee) and you’ll be good as new in no time!

Sounds like you were having an enjoyable trip.

I love road trips. People yammer about flying here, and there; I’d rather take ten days off and drive the round trip. There are just too many things to see in between those airports that aren’t visible from 40,000 feet.

It was enjoyable, though I wish it hadn't been bracketed by deadlines, and driving through Western Oregon with grass allergies this time of year is not a good thing. But we saw many unsuspected camping opportunities, both structured (commercial/state) and unsupported (just drive off into the woods somewhere with everything, including water, for the weekend) as we crossed the Cascades yesterday evening.

Given the long distances to almost everything here in the West I'm not giving up flying, but for some things driving is still best.

You certainly see more if you drive.

Well, FWIW, I haven’t been aboard a commercial flight since summer of 2001, and I’ve no plan to change that. The reasons behind that are not fare for this thread, but relate to the genuine cardboard cut-out “security” provided by DHS/TSA.

I took the entire family to see the latest PIXAR release “Ratatouille” on Saturday afternoon; it was hilarious, and the rendering is a universe away from the CG work of just five years ago — to the point that they had to tack on a paragraph at the end of the credits disclaiming the use of any non-CG content or motion capture methods.

Afterward, we took the kiddies to have a sleep over at some friends’ house, then went to Ruth’s Chris for a REAL Anniversary dinner; just the two of us.

TIP: For two dining at Ruth’s Chris, the Portebello Mushroom dinner makes and excellent appetizer plate, obviating the need for additional potatos or veggies, and embellishing one’s steak with their “Bleu Cheese Crust” results in sheer ecstasy for the taste buds; it cannot be too highly recommended.
