As a session musician, he played on Elvis Presleys Return to Sender, Roy Orbisons Oh, Pretty Woman, Brenda Lees Rockin Round the Christmas Tree and Im Sorry, REO Speedwagons Little Queenie, Al Hirts Java and other songs including ones by Buddy Holly and Johnny Cash. What a legacy. RIP, Boots.

Used to play the sax as a kid. Being able to play Yakety Sax was something to aspire to.

As a child, I went to sleep many nights back in the mid sixties even though my dad was playing Boots Randolph's 'Yakety Sax' very loudly on the hi-fi.
Ahh, the memories!
We still have that old hi-fi. I wonder if we still have that Boot Randolph album?

He could blow it warm or he could blow it cool; he was just the best, that’s all. My favorite was a Christmas album called “Boots and Stockings”; it doesn’t get much better.

One of the major influences on Captain Geech and The Shrimp Shack Shooters...(see the movie
"That Thing You Do" for further clarification!)
In all seriousness, he was a great session musician. RIP, Boots.

That just leaves one great rock’n’roll saxman alive and playing - Bobby Keys.

I'm not sure that Return to Sender would be Boots' best work. If he played on other early 60s Elvis sessions, such as Elvis is Back or the B-side Witchcraft (I dunno if he did or not), there is some fine rock'n'roll saxophone work to be hoid there.

Boots Randolph has always been one of our family’s favorite artists, he brought a sense of joy and fun to everything he did, and my late Dad, who never danced a day in his life (to my knowledge), when he heard Boots ‘Yakety Sax’, that’s as close as I ever saw him get, Dad got rhythm, and Boots’ music could wake it up.
The Lord be with him and the Randolph family.
Thanks Boots!

AND A BLOOD RELATIVE OF MINE. HIS DAD WAS HOMER RANDOLPH. HE AND JOE HUNTER WOULD DRAG THEIR TRIBES AROUND TO SCHOOLS ON THE WEEKEND AND MAKE MUSIC. ANY OF THEM COULD PLAY ABOUT ANYTHING THEY COULD PICK UP. BORN AND RAISED ON DONALDSON CREEK SOUTH AND WEST OF CADIZ KY. PRETTY DAMN GOOD FOLKS. HEAVEN’S ROCKIN’ TONIGHT!
