Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Spoiler Alert!!)
07/11/07 | Dianna

Posted on 07/11/2007 12:44:49 AM PDT by Dianna

Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.

Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.

1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.

2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.

3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.

There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.

There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.

The one thing they did right was rehabilitate Dumbledore into a grand wizard, after making him a total nuisance in the last film.

Is Gambon still doing his "angry Dumbledore" routine?

Comparing him favorably to James, sounds like?

Okay, here’s the big question: in terms of sheer movie goodness, how does this one rank against the previous?

So, FReepers, what do you think? Are you changing your theories for Deathly Hallows?

No. Mine are solid, backed both by the books themselves and by the literary traditions that Rowling draws from. They completely explain all of the clues and loose ends.

Which means, of course, that I'm 99.9% likely to be completely and utterly wrong.

They put Kreacher in it but he didn't do anything other than reveal his character.

According to the USAToday article yesterday, Kreacher is the character that J.K. Rowling said to put back in. He obviously plays a role in the last book.

Hey I stumbled across this today....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_Dark_wizards_in_Harry_Potter

It is really informative and there are links to a J.K Rowling interview and other links to characters from all the books. There may be some spoilers in there so be careful. ;)

There is some really interesting info in there! This bit about Grindelwald:

Grindelwald was a Dark wizard before Lord Voldemort and his only mention is in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on Albus Dumbledore's Chocolate Frog card which notes that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945.

Rowling apparently once claimed that there was a connection between Grindelwald and Adolf Hitler (hence the 1945 date of defeat); she has stated that she likes to imagine a connection between the wizarding world and the real one.[2]

Grindelwald has something to do with the remaining plot. [3].

Grindelwald is a Germanic name: Wald means "Forest", and Grindelwald is a ski resort in Switzerland. The name Grindelwald also bears a resemblance to the mythic Grendel who was defeated by Beowulf. It is worth noting that one of Dumbledore's middle names is Wulfric - close to Beowulf. Given Rowling's penchant for clever naming, it is likely that this was intended.

I think it is good to read the books again after movies because JKR always says that the info to figure out the ending is in the movies, it sorts out lots of filler and clues that really aren’t clues from the books.

I am getting disgruntled that my friend that I always go to movies with hasn’t gotten back to me as to when we can see this film. Although, I am not really sure I want to see it when it is packed with kids either....

That is interesting about Grindelwald...

Well I’m sure glad that’s settled.

Seriously. Now can we go on to discussing what Nicole Richie will be wearing when she is sentenced? I mean let's get our priorities straight!!

I know what you mean. We are going to go early Saturday morning, so I'm hoping it won't be too packed.

It would be easy enough to add a flashback scene or just refer to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place at the appropriate time. They could also skip the cleaning entirely and just have Mundungus or Kreacher steal it directly.

There is alot of Nazi dogma and imagery in Voldemort and the Death Eaters. The Dark Mark aerial symbol and tattoos could equate to swastikas. Certainly the pure blood mania and their hatred for mudbloods. (mud races is a term used by neo-Nazis for Jews, blacks, and Hispanics.) The Death Eaters are a surrogate for the SS. Even the fact that Voldemort is a half-blood could relate to the rumor that Hitler's grandfather was a Jew.

Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) gave an interview pointing out the similarities.

You’re beating me. I will NEVER make it, I am only halfway through Prisoner, and my guests don’t leave until Saturday night. I guess I get to read Hallows last, since the children aren’t re-reading.

I’m on my seventh reading of the books. I’m up to the hearing chapter in “Order of the Phoenix.”

I thought the part about Grindelwald was very interesting as well, and it amazes me how she comes up with the characters’ names.

Did you find the link to her interview with the guy who started leaky cauldron? It is really worth reading if you don’t mind a few hints about which way the book may be heading. Also there is a link to the characters sorted by the hogwart’s houses. There are a few characters whose names do not have links so they must be being introduced in the 7th book.
