That’s a big-ass motor! Mine was only the 327, bu it still went like a bat out of hell.

Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Sounds like the driver was "glazed".

Yeah, and to think everyone knows you always do the donuts with a right hand turn,

I don't think I ever did one to the right, always to the left.

If you have a lot of horsepower you can do them any way you want, but for cars with less power to break the wheels free a right turn throws the weight to the left tire, allowing the inside tire to burn much easier.

I don't have the video any longer but this X5 made a complete recovery in this race.

The Cayenne and the Q7 will perform as well.

Longer wheelbase and width of the SUV should lower the center of gravity enough perhaps. Although I’d rather have a good solid muscle car (American steel only) to do it instead.

I go back and forth on seatbelt laws.

But this story illustrates the real design behind seatbelts, as they were developed back in the 50s.

Seatbelts are not for your protection. If you ever sat behind the wheel of a car from the 50s with the seatbelt on (lapbelt), you’d know that the steering wheel is going to knock your teeth out if you ever crash.

The design of the seatbelt is to keep you behind the steering wheel so that you can maintain/regain control of the vehicle if you lose control or are in an accident.

In this regard, it’s a pretty good idea to wear one.

Is this a “hold my beer and watch this” moment?

And Fort Collins, Colorado has some pretty fine beer!

Whether drugs and/or alcohol was were involved or not, teenage lack of judgement and inability to assess risk was.

I used to do donuts in a big green rustbucket Chevy station wagon, like this one except for the color and condition:

The long wheelbase made it somewhat more languid.

We had a big ford LTD station wagon which was great for power slides on the dirt backroads, but it was too long and weak for doing donuts.
