KTLA-TV anchorman Hal Fishman, who suffered from colon and liver cancer, died at his home early this morning. He was 75.
Fishman died at 3 a.m., his family at his side, KTLA reported.
Doctors found the cancer after Fishman collapsed at his home Wednesday and was hospitalized to treat what was described as a serious infection.
"While being treated for the infection, doctors also found colon cancer, which has spread to his liver," Rich Goldner, the station's interim news director, said Friday.

update
R.I.P. Hal Fishman, a fixture at KTLA Channel 5. Other anchors and reporters came and went - Keith Olberman and Jan Carl to name two, but Hal kept on going. An aviation afficionado too.
He was a Los Angeles mainstay, for sure...RIP
And, unapologetically non-liberal-weenie.
So Cal ping
I am very sorry to hear that. Thoughts and prayers for the family.
(I’m surprised at his passing so soon after diagnosis.)
Most of his commentary was great
RIP indeed.
Thanks for the ping, lainie.
WOW I just hear Lainie RIP HAL
That guy was legend here in SO CAL
Sorry to hear it. Thanks for pinging.
For years, I’d watch Hal before I fell asleep. Part of my daily routine and a nice contrast to the yahoos on the other stations. He will be missed.
R.I.P.
He will be missed.
R.I.P. to a real journalist. He’ll be greatly missed.
Thank you Lainie. Hal was a good guy. He was treasured by his management. That says a lot about him and also a lot about them.
May he rest peace. I always thought he was a pretty decent human being.
He told it the way he saw it and let the chips fall where they may.
He had class and dignity. The local news will never be the same.
I remember Hal when he was George Putnam’s side kick.
R.I.P. Hal.
