Ted Nugent's Marine Claim
FOX News Channel/The O'Reilly Factor

Posted on 08/30/2007 9:39:57 PM PDT by GunnyBob

Last night on TOF on FNC, Ted Nugent claimed he was a Marine. I can find no evidence to support this but I could be missing something.

Someone want to help me out here?

Yet if you spent a lot of time visiting the hospital and talking to the hospital, you could be taught by the hospital and may express this.

What a ridiculous thread.

“By the way, we’re selling out every concert on this “Love Grenade” tour. And I do exactly what the good Marine Corps taught me every night.” Maybe I am reading something into this, but this sure sounds like a claim to have been a Marine.

I thing you're missing some context.

In 2005, Nugent was one of the stars of a USMC benefit concert called "Rockin' the Corps". His current tour seems to be based on that idea.

What he is doing in this tour - the message he's sending, the way he's sending it, and the importance of sending it - may well be based on what he learned from the retired marines who organized the earlier concert.

I guess if Bill Clinton can be “America’s first black President” then Don Knots could be a Marine(?)

Don Knotts:

Veteran of the Second World War who was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 4 bronze service stars), Army Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge (with Carbine Bar) and Honorable Service Lapel Pin.

Served in the Army of the United States, under the service number 35 756 363, from June 21, 1943 to January 6, 1946. Discharged in the rank of Technician Grade 5, which was the equivalent of a Corporal.

He alluded ( word) to the same thing on Dennis Miller radio.
“What the Marines taught me”
Didn’t know what he ment because I never thought he was in the military.
I assumed he ment the code. “god , country , corps.
Stay true the Constitution and the belief of good men.

Thats different. If you spent a couple weeks with doctors in Doctors Without Borders, you might say “what the good doctors taught me” but that wouldn’t sound like you were claiming to be one. If Ted spent a couple weeks in Falluja with the Marines and later said “what the good Marines taught me” it might appear he was claiming to be a Marine or it could also just be a statement that “the good Marines” taught him something.

I agree someone is looking to damage Nugent.. sharpshoot him
on the use of a phrase of speech.

I get a kick out of his craziness for our side.

A lot of people in this world can say

“The Marine Corps Taught Me”

Jar Heads, nice American folks like Nugent (who has every right to his ways). And those not so nice folks in far off Northern land or in Sunny tropic scenes ....reciently even in some desert resort communities like Fallujah....lol

Just a question of what the objective of todays training lesson plan is..

3 Months ago I couldn’t spell Marine now I R One...lol

Semper Fi.

Looks like Clinton’s thugs are after Ted Nugent. Should be interesting.

I don’t like poseurs and this reeks of one.

However, I’d rather have a hundred wannabees like Nugent that believes in our cause than a former marine like John Murtha who spits on and back stabs his currently serving brothers.

Still, Nuge needs to watch his mouth.

Ted Nugent has been touring with various bands or solo since he was 19. There is no way that he did a tour in the Marines or any other branch in there.

Every account of the tactic Nugent is supposed to have used to dodge the draft has listed him as the source. And I have never seen anything to indicate that Nugent himself has ever denied it. It's probably true.

See my post #37. I don't know how any crystal clearer it can get.

"TED NUGENT RESPONDS OP-ED COLUMN WAS VICIOUS ATTACK ON MY CHARACTER THE SEATTLE TIMES March 24, 1991

“My hunting message is even simpler. I deeply respect God’s creations, and value his design and my participation in it. The only thing true in Bowman’s attack is that I have no use for anybody who treats animals as equal citizens of the planet. I eat animals, but never people. This is the main thrust of Bowman and his cultist animal clan. Animals as citizens? That is preposterous, and what separates moral fibre from hypocrisy.

Reciting a fictitious story from the hippies at Rolling Stone about how I got out of the draft is another example. I had a 1-Y student deferment, for the record.”

How about the Detroit Free Press? Every source I've seen for the story attributes it to a 1990 Detroit Free Press interview.

And 1-Y was not a student deferment. Student deferment was 2-S, something Nugent couldn't have qualified for since he wasn't a student. What 1-Y meant was that government didn't consider you fit for service at that time, but might call you later. Ted needs to work on his story a bit.

Didn’t the Nuge visit the troops in Iraq? Maybe that’s what he was referring to.

No it doesn’t.

He does not explicitly state “I am a Marine.”

Well, post #37 seems to provide your answer:

And I do PG-13 concerts for the state fairs and the county fairs and all these different family events

What a pantload. When he was at the Paso Robles Mid State County back in the 90s his rants on Feinstein and Boxer during his concert were so loud you could hear them a mile from the fairgrounds. Then again, maybe he truly believes that "f-ing whores" and "piece of sh*t" are family fare.

I think some are making a mountain out of a mole hill here. I don't think he meant to say he's a Marine but Marines have showed him what he should aspire to be like.

Sometime when I say something (or post it) it doesn't come out like I meant it. Ever happen to you?

I do know Uncle Ted's a good man. And nobody should misrepresent themselves as a Marine. I seriously doubt Ted would intentionally.

I checked the 1990 Detriot Free Press, and it is not in there or any issue prior to 1970. During my search, however, I found the Seattle interview where he attributes it to the Rolling Stone.
