Thanks for the ping, Snugs.

I've just returned from a long work/vacation trip, so I'll be spending my Labor Day relaxing after relaxing for so long! LOL.

I told some kids in my class in 3rd grade the reason school didn’t start till after labor day is because teacher the had to have their babies before school started so they could teach. I had them going for a while, I still always keep adding to much to the story.

When I was a kid, it seemed like Easter was tied or at least just "this much" ahead of Thanksgiving in the pecking order of holidays. Today, it seems like Easter is barely above the signal to noise ratio.

I'm sure you noticed, too, that the week we got off school was "Easter Vacation." and fell during Holy Week. Today it's called "Spring Break" and comes whenever. And it's famous (or infamous, if you prefer) for bacchanalian hijinks.

snugs,

Thanks for starting the thread, and I'm sorry to be slow responding.

My interview was Friday, and I'm still in recovery from the interview. I really can't tell how well I did. I'm certain that I'd be good for the job, and I think they saw that I'd be good. On the other hand, I don't know whether this job is a good move for me right now, and I'm hesitant because I don't want to make a bad move or a move that isn't as good as it could be. I didn't speak to the HR representative until the end of the interview, and I was tired. I didn't ask her all of the questions that I should have asked to learn more about how this company handles things.

I need some changes that will increase the quality of my life. I have a great job, and in that sense, I can't complain. However, I'm not happy, and much of my unhappiness comes from the loneliness of being single. If I take this job, I won't move. In fact, if I take this job, I'll likely be in the house I'm in now for the next ten or fifteen years. I'll save a great deal of money staying here, but a new location could increase the quality of my life. The new job will lead to better vacation benefits, and that change will increase the quality of my life. I just don't know whether the quality of life increase from an extra week or two of vacation will really make a difference in my life. That difference will be the difference between going to some places and doing some things and not doing them at all, and my vacation experiences in the past have made me feel better about myself. If I stay where I am, I'm going to be stuck in cubicles in about a year or so, and that change would certainly reduce my quality of life. This move would save me from that loss of quality.

So far, I haven't done anything all weekend, and the prospects don't look good for the rest of the weekend. I've just lost all energy right now.

I'm not sure that I see Labor Day weekend as an exclusively family time or friend time. For me, Labor Day has generally been neither. My family lives too far away for me to spend time with them. I really don't have friends who I can call to do things or who will call me. I have one friend who wants to do something, but I'm just not comfortable with anything she's suggested or anything that I can think to do with her. If Louisiana weren't so hot, I'd be wanting to do something outside, but the heat is daunting me a little bit on that count.

For most people, I think of Labor Day Weekend as one last chance for families to do something before school starts. I think many people will be taking a last trip to the beach or the lake. In this area, many people see this weekend as the last big boating weekend before the football season starts.

I'm not doing a good job of keeping the thread positive this weekend. I'm sorry about that.

Bill

She’s beautiful! I’d be thrilled if she were my partner.

You can get liquid iron supplements from health food stores. They absorb better than the capsules.

Thanks Dave, but I've tried all sorts of iron supplements including the liquid and I just can't take them. They hurt my stomach too much, and for some reason don't change the state of the anemia that I'm suffering from because it's such a major component of the Mixed Connective Tissue Disease that I have. So, it's the iron IV drip once in a great while to get the numbers back up to at least minimums! LOL I usually run between 7 and 8 ... but this time it was down to 4.1 ... hemaglobin, y'know? Pretty dang low, even for me.

Wow do you not have Easter holidays? In Britain the schools are off during that period and Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays.

LOL. I noticed the shops in Britain started the back to school stuff the week schools broke up for summer which is round about 20th July 2007. The pencil cases, pens, geometry sets and of course the winter uniform.

I cannot imagine working in a cubicle yuck must be horrible but it seems a lot of workers in the US do thankfully it never caught on in Britain.

Howdy folks, sorry I’ve been absent for most of this weekend, it’s been part vacation and part getting called into work. That and Sen. Craig resigned and all of the sudden we may have a competitive Senate race out here.

Anyway, I have something on my mind and I would appreciate it if all y’all would like to comment on it. Often I like to complain about “you know I don’t think women in general like me” and my reasoning for it is that “take a look at the types of guys women at or near my age are dating or marrying. They look or act nothing like me.”

Then the oft-used cliche I’ve heard countless times of “just be yourself” comes into play. What does that even mean, anyway? I’m not sure what irritates me more: the fact that the statement itself is so unoriginal or the fact that maybe my line of reasoning—that I’m not what women are really looking for—is the correct one?

Back to work for a bit, I’ll check back in later.
