I felt silly crying over an animal I didn't even like. She was a mean little sucker. She secretly moved the entire clan away and left behind her pregnant daughter, Mozart, to fend for herself. Recently, she may have cheated on her loyal mate, Zaphod, with Zappa male, Houdini, who had knocked up three of her daughters, Rocket Dog, Daisy and Mabeline, as well.
For the last couple of weeks Animal Planet has been doing a promo that on the September 28 episode the manor would be changed forever. You know how promos exaggerate things, so I thought it would turn out to big no big deal.
Early in the episode Flower gave birth to her latest litter of pups and caught the Zappas encroaching on the Whiskers land and a fight broke out. During the battle, Zappa pup, Axle, was left behind. Flower's son, Mitch found him and brought him to flower. And in very un-Flower-like behavior, she decided to bring him into the Whisker clan.
Someone has a very warped sense of humor when it comes to naming some of the meerkats in the Zappa clan. The former leader was named Frank. As in, Frank Zappa. And two of the Zappa pups were named Axle and Rose. As in Axl Rose.
Anyway, after that, you thought that was the big event to change the face of Meerkat Manor, forever. It wasn't. And for once the promos weren't exaggerating things out of proportion.
On the way back home the Whiskers had to do battle with a cobra. They seemingly won, but the cobra ended up crawling inside the burrow where Flower's pups were. The Whiskers smelled the scent of the cobra and went into battle-mode in an attempt to save Flower's pups. Flower lead the charge inside the burrow.
Afterwards, narrotor Sean Astin announced that during the battle Flower had received a fatal cobra bite to the head during the battle and died. She gave her life saving her pups, as they emerged from the burrow for the first time. One of them was a girl named, Liz.
I guess what made it so shocking is that no matter what the odds Flower always came out the winner. You, well at least me, never thought that Flower would come out on the losing end of this battle. And right after she showed a rare show of compassion to the Zappa pup, when in the time I've been watching the show [I started watching in the middle of last season] I've rarely, if ever, seen her show any compassion for anyone, least of all her offspring.
It's actually been a pretty brutal season so far and the season is only a few weeks old. Mozart joined the Starsky group which was headed by Carlos, who impregnated her. And it seemed she was poised to finally become dominant female of her own group, but her half-sister Kinkajou, was also pregnant by Carlos, and after Mozart gave birth and went looking for some food for her pups, Kinky @#$@# snuck into the burrow and killed Mozart's pups and became dominant female of the Starsky clan. If that wasn't enough, Carlos had a wound on his face that was infected and he died from the infection with a loyal Mozart at his side. Flowers pups from an earlier litter, Len and Squiggy [Lenny and Squiggy, anyone?] met deadly fates, as well. Len was killed by a predator and Squiggy [who was born with a malformed paw] was left out in the desert to die when he couldn't keep up with the rest of the group.
This show is the true meaning of reality television and it really makes all the so-called reality shows on TV look pretty pathetic in comparison.
She was a good mom and clan leader. Who will lead the Whiskers now?
The new leader will be Rocket Dog, Flower’s oledest daughter.
Did not get to see that episode. This is such an addictive show. Will miss flower as she has been my very favorite meerkat.
With Mitch carrying Axel, Axel might have had some scent from Mitch so Flower accepted him.
I don't know Rocket Dog...never even heard of her.
I have only watched a couple of times, but it is an addicting show.(As if I needed more addictions).
what the heck is the name of the show?
If these things are related to mongooses, why do they seem to have so much trouble with snakes??
The show is called “Meerkat Manor.” It airs on the Animal Planet TV channel. New episodes air Friday at 8:30 P.M. eastern time.

In this particular incident, the snake was inside their underground burrow. But usually, when there’s a confontation above ground, the meerkats are successful at defneding themselves.
thanks - I never heard of it until now
They are cool shoes, too.
Cool shoes?
Never heard of them!
My husband is a Marine & he teared up about it. I heard him yell “OH NO!!!!” from the next room & found out what had happened.
What a shame. Meerkats are just fascinating to watch.
