During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Burbank Lockheed Aircraft Plant to protect it from Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting and trompe J'oeit to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.

The Boeing plant in Seattle had houses built on top, and people on their breaks would walk around and make it look populated.
In 2007, the enemy forces at the NY Times, Washngton Post, and CNNABCNBCCBS would be exposing this as lead stories.
With bombing coordinates.
It would be interesting if you could post some of his recollections.
I recall something similar at the Douglas plant in Lakewood.
And in line two, trompe J'oeit [sic] should perhaps read: trompe d'oeil. Merci beaucoup. ;-D

Merci, bon Ami (and I bet I got this wrong too, but I am sure you know this is a sincere Thank You).
Y’all see this? Kinda cool!! Follow the link...
This is a more modern version of camouflage tried by the US Navy ... to make an aircraft carrier look like a golf course. I think it works! ;-D
Seriously though ... I found a reference : "War plants have been camouflaged to look like golf courses from the air. People employed to play golf on the roofs can make the deception even more realistic. Fleets of ships have been hidden from the enemy by stretching camouflaged nets over a harbor."
...yet I could not find any other source or picture ... if I do ...I'll post it!
Yeah, spell check it is! I was torn between my normal fingergraphel error or, more likely, terminal stupidity. If not terminal it is as least industrial strength stupidity. Let us try for poor eyesight so I can save face behind a handicap. This 20 inch monitor needs to be about 36 inches.
My Grandfather worked there for a short time during WWII before returning to the Willow Run Bomber Plant outside of Detroit.
Orville hid one in a bicycle shop
By many accounts-that would only work on an Air force base
:) :) :)
'I didn't see you at camouflage practice this morning, Private!'
'Thank you very much, Sir!'
The History Channels series “Lost World” had a great episode on
the building/operation of Oak Ridge (and the attendant secrecy).

I can’t remember the percentage, but the show related that the vast
majority of the workers did not really have a clue about what the
end objective of their work was.
One fellow (college grad?) said he answered an advert from an
Oak Ridge recruiter.
The recruiter said “I can’t tell you that” when asked about what
the job was and where he would be doing it.
Of course, he took the job.
