10 Questions for Jenna Bush
Time ^ | October 11, 2007 | Carolyn Sayre

Posted on 10/11/2007 2:38:12 PM PDT by avacado

Jenna Bush answers questions from people across America:

If the war in Iraq is so noble, why aren't you and your sister serving our country there?
—Donald Pence, San Francisco

I understand that point, but there are many ways to serve our country, and I think my skills are better suited for teaching and representing the U.S. in Latin America through UNICEF. I respect the men and women of our country who are over there fighting. It is an unbelievably selfless thing to do. But if people really thought about it, they would know it's not even a practical question.

I liked her response in the last sentence. The rest of the questions and answers are pretty good too.

For the first time in years, I gave Time the web hit they don’t deserve. I read all ten. Jenna did well.

They might have been trying to corner her with something. She did a good job fighting back.

Time? They haven't had an heroic writer/editor killed in the last 5 wars have they?

What would give them the right to ask such questions.

Time for them to send a dozen senior editors to Kabul to ride around in a hummer.

I can’t help wondering what “Donald Pence, San Francisco” has done to serve our country beside dreaming up snarky, gotcha questions for the President’s daughter.

If I were Jenna, here’s my response: Mr. Pence, if you had a son or daughter in Iraq, would you want them in harm’s way because a standing President’s daughter was in their unit serving and putting all of them at risk from terrorists eager to hit the President personally? I didn’t think so - perhaps you might like to think before you ask those kind of questions or didn’t you learn question asking in journalism school?

YEAH, LET'S SEND THE FIRST DAUGHTERS TO IRAQ SO AQ CAN KIDNAP THEM AND BLACKMAIL THE WHITE HOUSE!!!

Why didn't Chelsea Clinton serve in Bosnia? Why didn't Margaret Truman serve in Japan? Why didn't Linda Bird Johnson serve in Vietnam?

Anybody who asks that question is too F$%KING STUPID to deserve to have it published in a major magazine.

Good point Leah! But that’s the thing with children of politicians: the “journalists” take out their hatred on them instead of their parents. But Jenna never asked to be the President’s daughter, and it’s really unfair to ask questions like that. But I have a feeling that she is a tough person - sort of like her dad ;)

You know, this is the first post I’ve seen about the recent spate of interviews by Jenna Bush.

Yes, she’s engaged. And oncit I remember her being a bit of an airhead.

She’s had some kind of assignment working with AIDS victims in Jamaica or somewhere like that. She wrote a book about it although I’m sure she didn’t really “write” it, as these things go. I also understand that being sent off on this sort of jaunt to instill some humility in the rich and famous is often done and it’s probably a good thing.

Whatever the case, go with me folks, NEVER, not EVER, have we seen Chelsea Clinton do such a thing. Because Jenna was vibrant, concise, enthusiastic and full of class in her interviews.

Jenna even had the good graces to name Chelsea Clinton as a White House kid she admired although Chelsea was pretty much a zero and a liar like her parents as I recall her response to where she was on 9/11/01.

Not that I want to pile on to Chelsea Clinton, who, considering her embarrassment of a father, seemed like a pretty good kid.

But this fact cannot be denied....Chelsea never wrote a book and she never gave a series of such good interviews as Jenna did.

“I recall her response to where she was on 9/11/01.”

Far be it from me to defend Chelsea, but I think it was that lying witch of her mother that had Chelsea in the heart of danger. I believe Chelsea said she was at a friend’s house uptown when it happened.

Q. How do you know when Hillary’s lying?
A. Her lips are moving.

That libscum takes his attitude from Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and Michael Moore types.

Snark, sarcasm, cynicism, and mocking, are all the liberals have left. They can no longer sum up intellectually honest arguments or serious attitudes.

What does Donald consider 'noble'? The "War on AIDS"? If so, why isn't he working in an African clinic? How about "homelessness"? Why isn't he living in the streets helping those poor souls?

Put up or shut up, Donald.

who in their right mind would ask the daughter of an elected official questions like this?

I like the way Elvis handled questions about the war. He said something like- I’m just an entertainer, and I don’t think it’s my business to talk abotu things like that. Good man. And he served too (drove trucks in the army). Need a few more Elvi

Why doesn’t Time ask Chelsea Clinton why she’s working for a New York hedge fund? Or why her daddy just threw a huge book party in NY for her ex-boyfriend?

Meanwhile Jenna Bush is teaching the poor in Latin America, working with AIDS victims, has written a book about her experiences and is donating the money to charity. ‘Nuff said.

She's turning into a very fine woman and citizen. And as one poster made the comment, Jenna is helping the poor in poor countries while Chelsea Clinton spends her youth chasing hedge funds. Big difference.

Didn’t Chelsea have the low class to say something stupid like not enough money was spent on something?

Chelsea Clinton made some snide comment that reflected on President Bush because even today Bill Clinton knows that he was in the oval office with Monica while Osama was plotting and planning. And God knows the man wouldn’t have enough class to keep his daughter out of it. But I distinctly recall Chelsea opening her mouth and saying something stupid.

Something the Bush girls have never done. Everything Dubya, Laura and his daughters have done in reference to the Clintons has been with class and dignity.

And isn’t it odd that the press took a hands-off with Chelsea during the Clinton years - while they seem to do everything they can to cast the twins in the worst possible light.

Call me cynical, but most of it sounded like leftist bleeding-heart "global community" drivel to me.

I decided to go to Latin America because many of my students in Washington emigrated from this region and inspired me to learn more about their home countries

Awwww. Now here's an idea: Why don't you tell your dad to do something productive about the U.S. border?

What an asshat of a reply! I guess I am a liberal too because I have been going down to Mexico and Central America since I was a kid and always take old clothes to give to the kids.

SHE'S A FRIKIN' KID!!!!!!!!!! WITH A HEART!

And why don't you write the President, your Congressman, and Senators and tell them to do something about the border instead of frikin' whining about it on the damn Internet!

A nice left hook across your jaw would make my day...

You have nailed the underlying point of the stupid designed to trip her up question.

Prince Harry, who was gung ho about serving in Iraq, was prohibited from doing so for precisely the same reason: too dangerous for his comrades.
