The Pedal-to-the-Metal, Totally Illegal, Cross-Country Sprint for Glory
Wired | October 16, 2007 | Charles Graeber

Story of recent attempt by Roy and Fyshe to break record cross-country driving record of some 32 hours known as the Cannonball Run that was set earlier by Diem and Turner. The article is quite detailed and long. It is here at Wired com. However, this does have a dark side such as this accident death from someone else's earlier try.

Thank you for posting this - it's an excellent piece.

I've always wanted to drive from NYC to LA - but legally.

My contribution to the field id “The I40 40”

This is a timed event from Wilmington to Barstow on I 40 in less than forty hours. The distance is around 2800 miles and the average speed is a modest 70 mph or so.

Those who may apply to me for a certificate.

— install this text file onto your computer, it works on any computer (including handhelds) that use the hosts file for local DNS lookup (Windows, Mac, PocketPC, Unix, Linux, etc.)

What it does is block advertising sites by redirecting it to an empty port on your computer. Most popups are blocked, most ads are blocked, most malicious websites are blocked. Drudge Report with zero popups, zero ads - with no program running on your computer. I love it.

Thanks....I think this was a redirect. I’ve never had a real problem with pop-ups.

I didn't get any. I run Pop-up stopper on top of Firefox. It's free - scroll down to 'free tools'. http://www.panicware.com/

In addition to Pop-Up blocker, you probably want to run Flashblocker as well. Cookie Safe is another good addition for your Firefox.

Not a fan of Firefox. I use the co-branded MSN-IE browser. I’ve never had a problem with pop-ups.

IE has about caught up with Firefox. For a long time, IE didn’t have tabbed browsing and a built in spell checker. Do they have a Flashblocker for IE yet?
