Vanity: Looking for safe toys (and components) not made in china

I hope no one minds the topic of this thread. With the holidays coming up, I thought this might be of use to not just me, but all parents, grandparents, families etc.. A list of ideas from others, and this thread could be an EXCELLENT reference guide.
As a new grandparent of a child less than 2 1/2 yrs old, I am looking for safe alternative toys and toy parts that do not originate in china. If the toddler puts it in his/her mouth, (aside from being big enough that he/she can't swallow it)...it needs to be a material that won't hurt him/her.
TOPICS: Health/Medicine; Hobbies; Reference; Society
KEYWORDS: china; lead; poisoning; toys

There are quite a few websites that can help you. Just Google “made+in+usa+toys.” (Actually, I just realized I used Yahoo!). Problem is, how can one be sure the information is accurate?

I can't offer anything specific, but I have seen toy packages and websites that now go out of their way to say that the products are manufactured in the US and exceed health regulations.
Not age appropriate for a 2 year old, but the site www.zometool.com is an example of this.

Perhaps you can find a Pre-Ban version on ebay. They were made by the Crown Toy company. I think they were made in Ohio.

Thanks for your posts.
I don’t know how to confirm if a toy is made in the USA. Where’s inspector gadget or the toy police when ya need them. I will google that topic and see what comes up.

We used to play with rusty rebar with dead snakes on the end while drinking out of a creek that was fed from a cow watering pond.
I think the toy nannies are blowing this up a bit.

I have 5 nieces and nephews all between 8 months and 12 years old.
I too would like to be able to buy them toys NOT made in China with their led paint and slave labor.

It should be pretty darn clear to almost everyone that a company making toys in the U.S.A. that is not trumpeting it from the rooftops has a marketing dept. asleep at the wheel.

I never considered e-bay—havn’t used it for fear of getting ripped off. (I’m also wanting to purchase products made in the USA to NOT SUPPORT our ‘most favored nation’ I’ve never been against giving a few used items during the holidays either. Such as collectibles, books etc)
I do have a lawn game after the ban version. It was made in the 80’s or early 90’s now that I think of it.

I was kidding with the Jarts photo, but eBay is a great source for older toys made in the USA.
As for getting ripped off on eBay, you might want to sit down with someone who regularly buys and or sells on that site. Once you know how to navigate and review a seller or buyer's ratings the odds of getting ripped off are practically nil.
Nice link, TornadoAlley.
