I wonder what happened to Thomas Newton, Conservative Poet? We haven't heard from him in a while. --Tarquin Farquart, snoops.com

THE BASTIONS OF INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM

Let the name of Moses be stricken from every book and tablet, stricken from every
pylon and obelisk of Egypt. Let the named of Moses be unheard and unspoken, erased
from the memory of man for all time. --Sethi, The Ten Commandments screenplay

We have the power. We can block the printing
Of every important sonnet that
He writes, and lock his forum threads preventing
His words from preaching to us Democrats.
We can disrupt his speeches with abusive
Shouting and claim police brutality
When we’re ejected from the room. Collusive
News coverage assures immunity.
Its not the poem’s quality that counts.
It’s popularity, position, pay,
Panache, and recognition that amounts
To greatness for the poet of today.
All standards have to be obliterated
For paltry work to be commemorated.

Liberals only love allowing free expressions of viewpoints when those viewpoints are perverted, hate America and/or capitalism, or despises religion. Outside of those areas, liberals hate freedom of speech.

What is the relationship between the “poetry of Thomas Newton” and Urban Legends?

Folks do not go to Snoops for poetry.

Nah, they go there to search for spy cams. I go to Snopes for Urban Legends.

Don't annoy us further.
We have our work to do.
Just think about the average.
What use have they for you?

Is Snopes (Snoops?) a private site? If so, private ownership does allow the owner the right to ban whom they please and set the rules that they want. That said, it is always unfortunate when a website that claims to be an open forum starts ignoring it’s own rules and banning people because the owner disagrees with the opinions expressed.

Why would a liberal site want conservative poetry anyway?

That’s a pretty good poem.

If you have others like it — maybe post them over here?

And you do have that right. It's your site, you can do with it as you please. But here's something else you posted:

Free Republic was never intended as a place for people to bash each other. It's for conservatives to expose fraud and corruption in the government, etc, and to discuss ideas of how to defeat liberalism. Those of you who have some other agenda might have better luck elsewhere.

We do allow enough space for some amount of personal fun and goofing around, etc, but I will draw the line eventually when people start getting hurt. If you want to engage in flamewars and personal bashing, please do it somewhere else.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, I know Mitt Romney personally. I have for over 30 years and the man you and many others portray here on FR is nobody I know. The Mitt Romney of Brian Camenker's mind is a fictional character created to further a political agenda run amok. I can attest to the fact that Mitt Romney is not only innocent of the charges hurled at him from his opponents but that he is incapable of the ethical/criminal/moral violations so many here accuse him of with regularity. Yes, he converted to the pro-life side late. He has admitted that. But as someone who also changed his mind politically, I would think you would have more understanding of someone else's change of heart.

I am here to defend the man I know. I'm sorry if that offends you. He is a friend who has been very good to me and my family. So, know this, I will not be bullied into quiting. Neither you nor any of the Mitt bashers will get me to leave voluntarily. I believe in Mitt Romney, because I know him and consider him to be a friend. That is something none of you can shake.

I also believe that your website is an extremely valuable resource to the Conservative movement around the country and the world. I appreciate what you and your site have done for us and I hope that it will continue on for as long as you feel you can sustain it.

However, you do have rules here which seem to have been waived for certain posters and strictly enforced with others. Again, this is your site. You pay the bills. But if you're going to have rules and debates that mean anything, you have to enforce them all, all the time and with all parties. Otherwise, this is neither a free nor open discussion board, but a mere sounding board for the personal opinions of one man. But, if that's what you want, Conservatism will be the weaker for it. Thanks for your time.

It all started when I Goodled “Conservative Poetry,” and found a thread in the “Book Corner” of snoops.com titled, “Good Conservative Poetry?”

“I went to a poetry jam recently, and thought it was terrific—really political, really passionate, really exciting (way more visceral than monotone renditions of “The Daffodils”). Anyway, my SO denounced the experience as “an hour and a half of socialist crrrrap!” This got me to thinking about politics and poetry, and I’ve been trying really hard to think of good conservative/rightwing/republican modern poetry ever since. To no avail. And I don’t know if I can’t find it because it doesn’t exist, or if I would just not see it as “good” poetry if it proposed ideas and beliefs I disagreed with.” —Chloe, snoops.com, Book Corner.

What a surprise she had when one showed up!

Now we know the answer—it is banned.

CORRECTION: snopes.com not snoops.com—with apologies to the spyware website. You know how engineers are at spelling, “Four years ago I couldn’t spell engineer, now I are one.”

“Nah, they go there to search for spy cams. I go to Snopes for Urban Legends.” —Tennessee_Bob —Thanks for the correction.
