...WET AND WINDY WEATHER HEADING FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS
WEEKEND...
A SERIES OF DISTURBANCES WILL RACE ACROSS THE PACIFIC AND IMPACT
CALIFORNIA BEGINNING ON THURSDAY AND CONTINUING INTO THE WEEKEND. AT
THE SAME TIME THE POLAR JET STREAM WILL PROGRESSIVELY MOVE SOUTH...
WHICH WILL BRING PACIFIC MOISTURE AND INCREASING POTENTIAL FOR
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
AN INITIAL IMPULSE IS FORECAST TO MOVE OVER SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA ON
THURSDAY. THIS WILL HAVE LIMITED MOISTURE TO WORK WITH AND IS
EXPECTED TO GENERATE MOSTLY LIGHT RAIN. BY FRIDAY SOUTHWEST WINDS
WILL INCREASE...BRINGING ADDITIONAL MOISTURE AND INCREASED LIFT ON
THE COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. THIS WILL BEGIN A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
MODERATE RAIN IN THE MOUNTAINS. FOR LOWER ELEVATIONS...PERIODS OF
HEAVY RAIN ARE NOT EXPECTED UNTIL SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. SOME SNOW
COULD FALL AT RESORT LEVELS ON THURSDAY OR EARLY FRIDAY BUT WARMING
SHOULD CONFINE HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS TO AREAS ABOVE 8000 FEET IN
THE SAN GORGONIO WILDERNESS AND MT. SAN JACINTO STATE PARK.
GUSTY WINDS IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH...AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN WILL BE
POSSIBLE AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY WITH THE PASSAGE OF FRONTS ASSOCIATED
WITH INDIVIDUAL STORMS TO THE NORTH. TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF RAIN WILL
BE POSSIBLE OVER ALL AREAS WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS BETWEEN THURSDAY
AND MONDAY. ON THE COASTAL SLOPES...WHERE SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL HELP
TO LIFT THE MOISTURE...RAINFALL WILL LIKELY BE ENHANCED. THERE IS A
POTENTIAL FOR AS MUCH AS 8 TO 10 INCHES OF RAIN TO ACCUMULATE IN
WIND FAVORED SPOTS ON THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS...TAPERING TO 5
TO 8 INCHES FARTHER SOUTH INTO THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS. AN
INCH OR LESS IS EXPECTED IN THE SOUTHERN DESERTS...WHILE NORTHERN
DESERTS SHOULD SEE ONE TO TWO INCHES.
IF THIS PATTERN CONTINUES TO DEVELOP AS ADVERTISED...IT WILL ONCE
AGAIN POSE A SIGNIFICANT THREAT OF MUD AND DEBRIS FLOWS IN AND NEAR
RECENTLY BURNED AREAS. IN ADDITION TO POSSIBLE LIFE-THREATENING
FLASH FLOODS...AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF RAIN WILL ALSO CAUSE
CONSIDERABLE RUNOFF INTO LOCAL RIVERS...STREAMS...AND NORMALLY DRY
WASHES AND CULVERTS. IN URBAN AREAS WHERE THE RUNOFF IS BLOCKED OR
UNABLE TO DRAIN FREELY...FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE DURING PERIODS OF
HEAVIER RAINFALL.
STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY SEAS WILL DEVELOP IN OUR COASTAL WATERS BY
SATURDAY AND CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY. THIS WILL CREATE DANGEROUS
SURF CONDITIONS AND HAZARDOUS SEAS FOR SMALL CRAFT
ALL INTERESTS SHOULD KEEP ABREAST OF ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS AND
POSSIBLE WATCHES AND WARNINGS LATER THIS WEEK AS TIMING AND
INTENSITY OF THIS STORM SYSTEM BECOMES MORE CLEAR.

I just think they are trying to change the traffic pattern,...they set up a GOP Club and I am inferring they want all the election posted articles to go there....the volume of stuff that gets posted is just enormous....and anything they can do to spread it out across the storage devices would help performance....for the overall system....

High winds expected in advance of storm

ASSOCIATED PRESS

RENO, Nev. If you still have Christmas lights and decorations around the yard, the National Weather Service says you may want to take them down.
Strong winds are expected late Thursday and into Friday in front of a storm that is expected to bring several feet of snow to the Sierra and accumulations in the valleys.
Gusts to 60 miles an hour in the valleys of western Nevada are predicted.
In the Sierra, a winter storm watch has been issued for the Lake Tahoe region from Friday morning through Saturday. Forecasters say several feet of snow is anticipated.
In the Reno-Carson City area, the storm will start out as rain, with temperatures Friday in the 50s. But forecasters say temperatures will dive Friday night and Saturday, bringing snow to the valley floors.

Perhaps we could have a not-global-warming catagory.
BTW, I live in the high desert, at the bottom of what was once a lake. When it rains, it puddles.

I think it would be kind of funny to see a house floating down the street with its Christmas lights ablaze....as long as it wasnt mine!

Exactly what I was thinking, NR.
Thanks for the ping, Ernesto..;^)

We’ll have to see what happens all over , if we get major doses of rain, stuff floating down streets could be just for starters.. Looter Guy may be hitting the slopes this week-end..

If they are truly invoking 1996....I have heard several references....then JPL’s La Nina announcement last month is a load of hogwash.
