Heath Ledger's role in 'Brokeback Mountain' miffed Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson has called Heath Ledger's death this week a "tragic loss." But in recent years, Gibson had distanced himself from the risk-taking actor, it's been claimed.

Gibson turned cold toward Ledger after the Aussie star ignored his advice not to play a gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain," according to private investigator Paul Barresi.

Ledger and Gibson had grown close while filming "The Patriot," in which Ledger played Gibson's son.

"Ledger asked Gibson whether he should take the role of Ennis Del Mar in 'Brokeback,'" Barresi says a "major Hollywood producer" told him. "Gibson strongly counseled against it. The role apparently ran counter to Gibson's morality. And he felt that it would ruin Heath's career."

I do also like most of Will Smith’s film. Scientology does not thrill me but in my life I don’t know any. I think it is more of a Hollywood thing.

Perhaps some people may find two “actors” of the same gender “acting” in a movie where they kiss to be offensive. However, simply because some people may find that offensive does not mean that movies with such scenes should not be made.

But then again, some people would prefer the Nanny State to approve what we can and cannot see.

You know, it appears Will Smith is the latest big name star to join Scientology.

He gave the crew of his most recent film gift certificates for auditing at the wrap party.

Straight women don’t want to see lesbians kissing either....DISGUSTING!

Men do! I thought they were going to do Brokeback Mountain 2 with Jessica Alba and Jessica Simpson? What happened to that movie?

By the way, how come you have no problem with another major story in the film. Men who lie to their women while they have secret risky sexual affairs with other people; while these trysts are painted as a love story?

A husband having an affair with another man or a woman puts his wife at risk.

Therefore, Brokeback Mountain is no different than any other film that includes a married person having an affair.

LOL. Somebody says that somebody else told them that Mel Gibson said something.

That ices it for me. It’s a fact.

A man going outside of his marriage to have an affair with another another man or a women is equally reprehensible.

However, simply because it is morally reprehensible to me does not mean that such themes should be prohibited from the screen.

Yeah I think I could play a gay man as long as it never involved more than a peck on the cheek.

Oh, you said a peck. For a second, there...

The reason Hollywood has to make sequels and recreate older franchises is because they’re too twisted to be genuinely creative on a high level anymore.

Maybe. Of course, the other explanation is that movies cost so much to make nowadays--$100 million is nothing special as a budget--that the money people are looking for sure things, and sequels and established franchises are considered more sure than something you have to educate the public about.

Here it is in 30 seconds, performed by bunnies: Brokeback Mountain in 30 seconds performed by bunnies

It'll save you time, and pretty much summarizes the whole plot.

"I did think PSH (best actor working right now, IMHO) did deserve his award for Capote"

I was re-watching Boogie Nights last night, and Hoffman did a great job in that too as one of the supporting characters.

He’ll likely be known for playing the Joker in The Dark Knight.

Brokeback was small time compared to following in Jack Nicholson’s role in the new Batman movie.
