He will get ZERO independents and ZERO moderate Democrats.
If you think the key to a Republican win is in getting "independents" and "moderate Democrats" to cross over and not conservatives to turn out to vote, you are sadly mistaken.

Hillary and Obama will cause conservatives to unite and purge the GOP of liberals like McCain, Giuliani and Crist. The GOP will actually be stronger than before.
A McCain victory would flood the party with liberals. We would in effect be surrendering the party to liberals.
An analogy is Pearl Harbor. There was a reason God kept those battleships at Pearl Harbor and put the carriers out to sea.
There are very good reasons why McCain MUST lose.

I don’t know, Steve. Depending on how the economy continues, Romney may have a good shot at the Presidency. And I’m sure the MSM will play up McCain’s age - he looks old, and Romney looks more vibrant than any of the other contenders (Republican and dem alike).
Sure it’s shallow, but so is the fact that the MSM is pushing Obama, who “inspires” and reminds them of Kennedy!

Why have Freepers drank the koolade of the most

Willard would be the worst.

The only people that will vote for Romney is us. Sorry, but I won't ever vote for Slick Mitt. And I have a feeling many other freepers here won't either.

Who do you think's voting for Edwards in the 'Rat primary? He hasn't won a single contest or won any delegates and hasn't got a snowball's chance in July of winning the nomination but he's still getting 15 to 20 percent of the vote. He came in a distant third in his home state.
He's getting the votes of democrats who will never vote for a black or a woman. Those voters make a Romney victory very likely...whether they votre for Romney, vote third party or stay home. Romney will get a strong GOP turnout...McCain will not. Romney is our only viable alternative to a Hillary or Obama presidency.

Romney has my vote. The only people that want Mccain are the MSM. They like to spin the story such that Mccain is the only one that can beat Hillary when in reality, she’ll pund Mccain. He’s not articulate enough on a good day to old his own in a debate with her, and he has many skeletons going back to his Navy days ... not the least of which is the Keating 5 scandal.

Let me put it to you simply, Steve. If we can’t elect a conservative, it really matters very little to most of us who are conservatives whether the person elected has an “R” or a “D” behind his name especially if he/she is the property of Soros et. al. and is going to do the bidding of his Commie puppet masters. Voting for McCain gets you exactly the same agenda as voting for Hillary or Obama, i.e. George Soros’ agenda.

What is the point in a republican party if we nominate democrats? Who gets the blame! NO McCain for me period!
To: Steve40K
McCain won’t get very many Republicans and fewer Independents than vote for him in the primaries. He will get a few Democrat career military veterans but the great bulk of the Democrats will vote for the Clintons. All of them would vote for Obama but that choice will not be available.

Your contention is unsupported by the evidence. The guy was Governor of Massachusetts. He will draw independents and moderate 'rats.

So we’re supposed to vote for the person who can get the most votes from the opposing party? Thanks for clearing that up. I thought we were supposed to support a candidate who upheld Conservative values. How silly of me.

I’m not a Romney man but he would do fine in the general. Religion would probably be something of a factor but he is a smart guy and can probably counter that. He has a compelling case and, compared to his possible opponents, an outstanding record.

If you are talking about winning, I’d agree with your post. Elections are won and lost by the “moderate” vote whether hard-cores want to admit it or not. McCain, unfortunately, stands to pull the most of those votes against either Clinton or Obama, in my opinion.
I hate doing it this way, but I’m playing defense this cycle to keep the Dem out. Sucks, I know but I think it’s the best strategy seeing as how things are going.
