The (Probably) First Haley Barbour 2012 Thread.
Self

Posted on 02/06/2008 6:39:26 AM PST by ejonesie22

Well since 2008 has been a disaster and we don't need to bring any of the current candidates back for a redo next cycle, it's time to look ahead.

I for one am of the opinion that my Governor, Haley Barbour would be a good choice if he were to run. His term in Mississippi will be done and he will have made good on his commitment to us. He will have been a two term Governor and is good on a variety of issues. Add to that his performance during Katrina, and the contrast Mississippi was to Louisiana and we have a winner.

So...

Haley Barbour 2012, because he has experience in Disaster Recovery

The eventual full enactment of the Fairness Doctrine will help get rid of conservatism, including all of the “new media”, and the eventual full enactment of legislation which will allow illegal immigrants the right to legally vote in all future U.S. elections will also help to kill off the conservative movement. You think it’s bad now for conservatives? Wait until ‘12 becomes a reality and then see how difficult it will be for any conservative to win anything!

It will be worse if Hillary is elected.

He is just following the same coastal design ideas that have made places like Seaside and Destin so popular for tourist.

They also follow the ideas of preservation while maximizing economic potential. Very capitalistic, they are not "giving it away", just making better use of the resources to make an area more attractive for business and population growth.

I hope you're right.

He's certainly worthy of consideration.

I have some friends who have invested in these projects, the last thing they are is socialist or liberal, even though it sounds that way. It creates a focused demographic and market base.

Why should the government be involved in that?

If I remember right, he worked for the RNC a few years ago. That would give him contacts!

They aren’t past creating a positve environment for business and providing the usual services. They just encourage it then the private sector devlopers make it happen.

That bill is a joke....it won’t get out of committee let alone get to Haley’s desk.

Actually he RAN the RNC. From 1993-1997.

That would be the last time the Republican Party paid any heed to what Reagan would have done.

I think it would be a fine addition to this thread [or future threads] if we could know what the Governor’s positions were when he was running for office. i.e. how conservative is he?

I remember him as a spokesperson on television when he was running the RNC, and believe him to be conservative. But then he was defending the Republican party and not his own ideas. I used to live in Mississippi, but I didn’t live there when he ran for office.

Thanks. Upon further reflection, I don't see a problem with this.

pretty much what you would assume with the exception that

a. he’s not anti-gambling as a matter of policy

and

b. he is a “rally to the party” guy so he’ll fall in line and support McCain.....but then if he has national hopes in his future he pretty much HAS to do that.

Also, he hasn’t come out boldly on illegal immigration...but he’s a smart enough politico he won’t come down wrong on that issue when he’s called out on it.

He probably would like some sort of guest worker deal, but I’m sure he’s fence/enforcment/no amnesty too...I’d be shocked if it were otherwise.

I have been thinking about what you posted on #59. Do you support Barbour? If you were to make a case for someone to vote for him, what would be your reasons? And would you vote for him for President? I’d love to know. I’m interested in the possibility of Barbour for the presidency.
