Your point about violence is an excellent one. I for one feel safer sending my child to school than I do driving her there. She stands a much larger chance of being in a serious accident than being the victim of a vicious attack at school.
Not to mention, at the rural school she attends, there are any number of well-armed, excellent marksmen rednecks waiting to take a pop at some moron trying to shoot up the school.
I feel safer in my school than in a post office, but I don’t think they are going to close the post office any time soon.
All I can say about all this is, if I were in charge, public school would go from being a reality to merely being a blot on our great country’s history.
Sounds like a gruel and unusual response.
If this is such a grand idea, I'm sure other countries are currently abolishing public education right and left and leaving education totally up to parents.
You’re right. After all, it’s so important that we be more like Europe. /s

What about the Christian charity you are showing toward innocent **children** who being drafted ( by force) to be Oatmeal Girl’s child level social worker and child missionary.
What is this? A 21st Century Children’s Crusade? Now that is abuse!
What I’m trying to say is, just because other countries do it, why should we? As far as I know, private schools usually outperform public schools, although there are certainly instances where it’s the other way around. And at least with private schools and homeschooling, parents have a choice.
Yes, parents would actually have a choice as to how to educate their kids. Would that really be so bad?
Do you really like paying property taxes to support the multi-culti, anti-Christian education that goes on in public schools?
There is a reason. Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations" has some interesting essays on the need for public education.
Now, do I think public education can be made better? Absolutely! But to abolish it wholesale and replace it with a parent-led system? IMO, that would be worse than what we have now, and what we have now is pretty piss poor in places.
The reason other countries do so well may indeed have much to do with vouchers to private schools and considerable choice among existing government and private schools.
Please do a Google search on the words: Education Voucher in European Countries.
Then go to the Wikipedia link.
You will learn that Chile, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, and Holland have considerable for students. This choice is mostly in the form of vouchers. Posters on the board from Germany have also reported state support for alternative religious schools.
Fundamentally, my objection with government schools is that government schools and the First Amendment are utterly incompatible. Also, freedom of conscience and government schools can not coexist. It is for this reason that I advocate for their dissolution.
Your explanation to ToleranceSucksRocks, was sooooo smooth, that I did check the NEA website to see if I could find a matching NEA talking point, but didn’t have any luck. I do wonder though.

What? Trust the prolies? Mere parents? Couldn’t do that! (sarc)
Do you realize how **arrogant** the above sounds?
Wrong.
What on God's green earth are you talking about? Missionary slavery?
Look, just because some lunatic took a pot shot at a bus has NOTHING to do with publican education or missionary slavery (whatever the heck that is)
You really need to relax a bit.
Would have gone on this tirade had the lunatic taken a pot shot at a municipal bus for the same reason? Yes or No? And why?
You are making no sense. Regardless of where this child was going or what bus she was getting on there is a serious problem in this girl's home and you apparently do not give a fig about that, all you seem to care about is some imaginary slavery other kids are being forced into.
Some lunatic took a potshot at a bus driver because he didn't like the driver abiding by rules and you want to make that into some evil conspiracy to force children into missionary slavery or into being social workers???????
You really need to relax a bit.

An example of armchair psychology 101.

And parents who choose to homeschool are arrested and the children removed from the home...........real great, ain't it?
I asked you a direct and specific question.........
you apparently do not give a fig about that,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
What about the human rights of the other children and their parents? The First Amendment Right to free assembly is a HUMAN right that is an endowment from our Creator.
Do you give a fig about that human right?
And,,,it does seem that you want other children to be forced by the government to be Oatmeal Girl’s social worker and Christian missionary. Sorry! But I see that as being abusive to both Oatmeal Girl and the other children!
In your imagination, and only you imagination.
But I see that as being abusive to both Oatmeal Girl and the other children!
No, you are the one being abusive, to those who do not fall in lock-step with your personal obsession.
Would you have even bothered about this article if it did not involve a school bus belnging to the local public school district? Yes or No? It is a simple question --- why do you refuse to answer it?
