Good morning everyone.

Looking-glass River
by Robert Louis Stevenson

Smooth it glides upon its travel,
Here a wimple, there a gleam--
O the clean gravel!
O the smooth stream!

Sailing blossoms, silver fishes,
Pave pools as clear as air--
How a child wishes
To live down there!

We can see our colored faces
Floating on the shaken pool
Down in cool places,
Dim and very cool;

Till a wind or water wrinkle,
Dipping marten, plumping trout,
Spreads in a twinkle
And blots all out.

See the rings pursue each other;
All below grows black as night,
Just as if mother
Had blown out the light!

Patience, children, just a minute--
See the spreading circles die;
The stream and all in it
Will clear by-and-by.

Dear Friends of the Lair,

I would like to see the Lair return to its main objective, A Poetry Thread.

Chat is fine, poets do talk, we love to hear the chatter from our Active and Retired Military. We fully respect and support them, and their service to our nation.

We all have fun with the WOO HOO races, (I am just as prone to race as anyone, so no finger pointing here.)

Just a suggestion, let’s keep the race to 3 posts and no more.

It does take a fair amount of time to post new threads, filling a thread with WOO HOO races is not what I have in mind for the Lair.

As always, I thank you for your participation here and look forward to keeping old friends and making new friends.

Enough at Minus!

Snow draped lake shores
With the bare trees sheathed in frosty rime
And watch the snow plow for some time
Such is a day outdoors

I warm up here in the coffee shop
And sip a mug and watch the world chill
Its below zero out there enough to kill
So I’m hiding here till temps hop

I’m a warm weather sort of guy
And hate the winter when time slowly flies
Give me the summer and I’m full of sighs
Now that’s a season I could buy!

As Winter holds its icy grip
we dig deeper in our corners
of warmth and comfort
we quilt our selves with lofty dreams
about the Spring and Summer things

warm nights with warm breezes
lightning bugs their sizzle
the glow of neon on a star filled night

while sitting on a bank throwing
out a line for the whiskered catfish
a small bonfire where the kids
roasted weenies on a stick
then slapped them in a cold
hot dog bun, yes, it was a lot of fun.

Winter will let go in time
minus will turn to swelter
and we will cuss and moan
about the complexities of nature.

So ‘til then, we wrap up warm
our cold breathe steaming out
like a dragon on a quest
snorting out his angry temper
maybe......
he likes a warmer temperature!

Just a ditty on a cold day
lightens the heart
lightens the day.

A poet’s quest is this
I say
listen up kid
it can always be worse!

True, so very, very true
for its a bitter wind that blew
and I now sort of try to hide
and with hot coffee plied
as human snowmen tend to do
as we evade the passing flu

I must eat some chow now
my tummy is growling
I am jealous of your
coffee shop with
smells of cinnamon
and brewing coffee on tap

I have to cook for me you see
no menu to scan or drool upon
I must get the pots and pans
a rattling just for me.

I have some sausage in the fridge
some English muffins on a dish
some peanut butter with some jam
and the hungries strong enough
to eat a leg of lamb!

Touche`
