Ditto that, but only 8 teams. If a school can't get in the top 8, they have no business being put in a position to be champion. I think going from 2 possible champs to 8 is more than acceptable. Plus, you would only have 2 teams that play an extra game and 2 teams that play two extra games. Remember, the first round of 4 games would count as the bowl games they would play in anyway.
That being said, these elected officials are an embarrassment to their constituents for even sticking their nose in this.

Oh they are just jealous that SEC teams keep winning the BCS Championship.

Chuckling. Duly noted that you have removed your paean to Florida (was it championship U) from your tagline and now are reduced to exalting the conference.

They are upset because UGA doesn’t have a permanent berth in the championship game.

I’d like to see the universities investigated for the textbook scam.....you know, where they charge you $80 bucks for a book and then take it back for $15?...or the fact that they change the books you “need” every other year, making textbooks a huge waste of good trees...

I'm all for the playoff system but the federal government getting involved because one disgruntled Congressman doesn't like the fact his school was passed over is a cure that's worse than the disease. Our founding fathers never meant for Congress to abuse the power granted to them by the Constitution. This is a matter for private citizens to pursue in a court of law. It is more ludicrous considering Congress has far more important issues to consider.

First, get rid of the NCAA. After it's gone then let students get free dinners from alumni. Then let the best athletes go to the highest bidders.
At least let the athletes make a little money before they flunk/flame out, get injured or get passed over by the pros. With that money they can actually pay for an education.

A playoff would really rankle them, considering the SEC would dominate a playoff most years.

Hawaii...Georgia...left out of National Championship consideration?Neither Georgia nor Hawaii could be happy about having to play each other in the Sugar Bowl. Georgia should have been matched with a good team, and Hawaii should have been matched with someone at their level. Say GA-USC and Hawaii - Vandy.

Use existing bowls as the playoff bowls You do realize that the respective Bowls own their own Bowl, right? They are not owned by the NCAA. The Rose Bowl, for example, is owned by the Tournament of Roses Committee, which has spent nearly over a century promoting its exhibition matches to augment its Parade. From their point of view, your proposal is utterly absurd.

A playoff would really rankle them, considering the SEC would dominate a playoff most years. Only if the playoffs continue to be SEC and Pac-10 home games. If there's a home-field clause, the folks in Wisconsin, Montana and Washington are gonna be laughing at you even worse than you laugh at the teams that come from 30 degree weather to play you at home in 75+ humid weather. ...but that would pretty much end the Bowl games, as their whole point was originally to attract people from the Midwest and Northeast to winter resorts. Who from Florida, California, or Texas wants to pay to go to Madison or Happy Valley in January?

The bill's sponsor from Hawaii The bill's sponsorS are from Hawaii, Georgia and Idaho.
Plenty of chips on their shoulders at all three schools.

16 top rated teams Why not open it up more?
15 conference champions, allow room for two independents.
Conference championship game would be round one of the playoffs and thus 32 teams would be eligible.
"Ratings" would no longer be as important as winning games. If a team cannot win their conference, they do not deserve to be national champions (I am thinking of Oklahoma a few years ago). Then continue as you describe.

Who wants to go to Madison or Happy Valley any time of the year, for that matter.
It's not our fault where the bowl games are located.

Cut the silly Rose bowl out of the national championship. Then let them do whatever they want with their pretty little flowers.

I would assume not the University of Georgia which demolished Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

Actually, I thought the Bulldogs felt slighted having played a weak opponent, they were denied the opportunity to play for the Championship.
Demolishing Hawaii is a far cry from playing one of the "Big Boys".
