Sorry. This new format makes FR much less user-friendly. I find it difficult to use, and I’m sure I’m missing a ton of articles I used to be able to browse at a glance.
Truth to be told, I use FR a lot less since the change, and enjoy it less.

The problem occurs in Firefox, but not in Explorer.

I don’t like the new set up at all. It’s hard to read the Title of the thread....it’s the same font color as the source and it confuses the whole page.

I have the same problem as you describe. It started this morning. The FR page is too wide for my browser screen; it somehow doesn’t sense or respect the browser-window size. My sidebars are waaaaaaaay over to the right; I must scroll to get them.
From the posts on this thread, it seems a common affliction.
Folks, it might help JohnRob to debug this if we provide information about our setups. I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.12 under Linux.

Same problem here on Safari — OK still on ancient version of IE. All was fine 3.5 hours ago. Just FReepmailed john robinson about it — also pinging him to this thread.

Click on the "Activities" tab at the upper left of your screen. It worked for me. The sidebar reappeared.
And cut John some slack. The user community usually resists change, but in a few days, you'll be wondering why you ever liked the old format!

That usually is caused by someone posting a long URL in the article Source, rather than in the Source URL.
The long URL causes the page to extend.
Give it a while, and as more posts are made, they will eventually push the long URL post off your current view, and things should return to normal.
[If you click on Next Page, your sidebar will probably be back to its original format.]

Your problem is being caused by
This thread. Note the long URL in the header. Go to the top of the page and hit "Header" instead of "Text" and all should return to normal.

Surrender your screen name, give up your account, and habitate a lesser website.
It's the only thing to do.
