Help, the text won't fit in my browser window.

Yesterday all was fine, today, on FreeRepublic and only on FreeRepublic. The text doesn't fit in my browser window, I have to keep scrooling back and forth to read it.

Any suggestions?

It isn't much over sized maybe three or four letters, but it is a pain in the backside. I know the fix is probably simple, but, I haven't the vaguest idea where to start.

I’ve had the same problem for two days now. Being computer illiterate, I thought it was me.

Oh ya, it isn't in the post themselves, it is only on the page that gives a brief description of the whole story and links to the post and threads.

Your browser will (should) wrap the text to fit inside your browser window.

However, if someone (rudely) includes a super-wide picture or a long link containing no spaces, the browser cannot wrap, and instead increases the width of the column.

This is often the cause of the symptom you cite.

It should pass when the offending post falls off the first page.

Actually is much more than three or four letters, it is three or four words and the entire sidebar.

"In yet another alarming sign for the GOP's prospect's this fall, last night Democrats came within an inch of stealing one of the most Republican districts in"

The above is the first line of the index page, but all I get without scrolling is: "In yet another alarming sign for the GOP's prospect's this fall, last night Democrats came within an inch of stealing one of the m"

So, "most Republican districts in" is what is missing without scrolling plus the sidebar.

So, I should wait an hour or so and see if it returns to normal?

Yes, well, if what I describe is the cause of your problem, the one offending post forces a super-wide browser column, spreading them all out off the page to the right.

Try to find a post in your queue with a super-wide photo or extra long web address. If you cannot locate one, my suggestion of the cause is wrong.

I think you're right, I just refreshed and everything seems to be back to normal. Thanks, I thought maybe I had messed up one of the settings.

Try hitting the refresh button on your browser, I did and mine seems to be fine again.

This happened the other day when someone posted a long URL in the wrong spot while preparing their post. As soon as that particular post drops off the “front page,” then all will be normal.

Or as normal as it ever gets around here.

It’s a thread about an ebay auction that’s breaking the article list.

The thread preview has a link in text form that the browser can’t wrap properly.

It has nothing to do with refreshing, too large a graphic, etc. It just started doing this, intermittantly, a few days ago. Changing settings on my browsers, computers (several), etc. does not fix it. Then suddenly it goes away on all my computers. It DOESN’T occur when I use IE, only Firefox.
