Is there a statute dealing with this? Was the teacher trying to claim supernatural powers or something? It was a magic trick, fer cryin’ out loud. And he lost his job??? Granted, he was a substitute but for a substitute to come in and take over a middle school class, magic is a job requirement if you are going to survive the day. Maybe the next step is for the sub to get a lawyer and watch him make a whole pile of the school board’s money disappear. They’d deserve it.

There’s obviously more to it than that. He must be a White Christian male who didn’t bow down to the gods of political correctness.

Ping ... it’s not exactly a naughty teacher ping request, more like a stupid administrator ping request. Magic and wizardry are definitely not covered in the Florida Statutes.

The article made it sound like he'd been fired on the basis of an "accusation".

That's ridiculous.

Whoever did the firing definitely believes in "magic" and probably shouldn't be allowed in a public school ~ after all, those people are into "everybody nekkid" fertility rights, and the sacrificing of virgins.

Unsafe, unsafe, unsafe!!!!

Rushe Middle School students on their way to school.

Rushe Middle School is known in the area for its innovative "Just Say No to Poppies" program and gained wide acclaim with national organizations like the NEA for its progressive "No Buckets of Water Anywhere, Ever" policy which has been enforced by a group of highly trained, ecologically friendly, flying monkeys.

“And this happened in Florida. I get the feeling that somebody didn’t like him, and used this as an excuse”

Perhaps many of the student body are from a culture that takes magic very seriously and it spooked them. Chickens and goats are probably being sacrificed at this very moment to remove and possible curse the teacher placed on them.

What a shame, guy definitely knew how to start off a class with their total, undivided attention.

There was a supervisor named Rocky at the plant I used to work at who was an amateur magician and would constantly walk up to employees in the shop and perform a magic trick.

One day I asked him why he would always do that and he said that first of all it was fun then he said it would always break the ice between him and the employee and he could always get an employee to do a rough job after putting the employee into a "happy" mood......

Made sense to me...

The supervisor of substitute teachers is the one who should lose his job. Sheesh!

I mean no due process: they didn’t show he weighed the same as a duck or anything.
