The Catholics have sent messages of protest to the Bishop of Tabasco, the Most Rev. Vicente Camacho, who is now in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and to the Mexican Senate threatening action for the removal of Governor Fernandez Manero.
During the years of intense persecution of the church in Mexico all the churches in Tabasco were razed under the regime of Tomas Garrido y Canabal, then Governor of the State. Recently the restrictions on the church there have been loosened, but only to a certain extent.
President Lazaro Cardenas left San Luis Potosi, capital of the State of the same name, today for the first time since May 18, before the revolt led by General Saturnino Cedillo started. This is interpreted in the press of Mexico City as an indication that the President believes General Cedillo has been effectively smashed.
Traveling by special train, President Cardenas went to Charcas, in the northern part of the State of San Luis Potosi, in connection with the agrarian problem, after which he is expected to cut east to the oil fields in a move to rally the workers enthusiasm.
That General Cedillo is negotiating terms of surrender to the Federal forces was reported today by General Juan Barragan, who said that General Cedillo had treated directly with President Cardenas through his sister, Higinia Cedillo. The newspaper Novedades of San Luis Potosi confirms that she has conferred with the President.
Meanwhile, General Cedillos whereabouts remains a mystery to the public, with all sorts of rumors current.
Telegraphic communications between San Luis Potosi and Tampico were interrupted this morning by a band marauding between the stations of Las Tablas and San Bartolo.
Troops sent out put the bandits to flight and communications were soon re-established.
MEXICO CITY, May 31 (AP). Dispatches from Villahermosa, Tabasco State, said today that the clash there yesterday between Catholics and the police, following several weeks of dissension, occurred when the police sought to block efforts of the Catholics to erect a church on the site of the razed Church of the Conception.

You suppose Neil Young will write a new song, “Four dead in Mexico...”?
Maybe not. To be consistent, though, shouldn’t it be, “Four Dead in Tabasco?”
There is a clerical error in the title. It should be -70 years.
Yeah, sure ... blame the priests ...
