Maryland Mayor: 'Come to Ocean City' Before the Ocean Disappears

OCEAN CITY, Md. — The print ad, which takes up most of a newspaper page, shouts, "The Ocean Is Evaporating!"

TV and Internet spots warn that the world's oceans will disappear — in about a billion years.

But what appear to be public service announcements this week, delivered with a fake sternness by Mayor Richard W. Meehan, are actually an ad campaign to encourage visits to the resort town.

"We're advising citizens to book their Ocean City getaway now, before the ocean evaporates," Meehan says in the commercials; the image blurs and jumps like an old newsreel.

Worcester County is the most conservative county in all of Maryland and is one of the more conservative locations in the country.

Although OC has a some honky tonk to it, especially at the boardwalk, which is still a lot of fun btw, OC remains a family friendly town that attracts hundreds of thousands of people every weekend in the summer. We visit every summer and this video has me thinking about Fischer's caramel popcorn, Thrasher's fries and a cone from Kohr Brothers.

I’ve heard someone else on here say something like that before. I don’t remember anything like that the last time I was down there in 2005. I spent many of my childhood summers down in Ocean City. I have fond memories of it, though I’m not much of beach person now.

The illegals and legal migrants have taken over many areas of the lower Shore. I love the beach, but I’m not much for beach resorts and so generally stay out of OC for that reason.

I used to sing with him and his little 8-track player all hours of the night starting back in the early 70s. I saw him a couple years ago in a brand-new lime-green leisure suit riding a rusty bicycle.
