My Dell with XP purchased in July 2001 is very reliable. I can count on one hand how many times it has crashed.
I ran a XP DEll for three years bought a new Dell 1525 last month with Vista. I am completely satisfied with Vista

If anyone checked out the BT networks, Windows XP is currently being DL’d quickly. Some nice XP Pro versions out there which are slip streamed and easy to install.
Hope you got the 2.83ghz Quad-Core...Vista is 2X slower than XP, and needs 2 gigs of RAM to be minimally happy.

Time is running out for Win2K.
I’m on it at home, and can’t upgrade many of my apps,
because the current versions no longer support Win2k.
XP might now be stable enough to use.
Act fast. Limited time offer.
And don’t buy the full retail version.
Buy the upgrade (and get “Pro” to upgrade 2K, not “Home”),
or build a new PC and buy the OEM version.
You can migrate files and other tasks but can’t turn off UAC? Sounds like you never gave it a chance at all or never did in the first place.
Thats what they have said about every OS from every company. Heck Apple is going to stop supporting it’s non-Intel computers soon.

I’ve never had an XP crash. I simply do not understand why others encounter so many problems with MS products. They have been extremely reliable and stable for home use as well as our business use.
I replaced W98SE (now there was a dog) with XP Home and once I found programs that were compatable I don’t think I’ve had any problems. Didn’t even know XP had a “Safe Mode” until we took a power hit.
Upgraded from a 7 year old 800MHz to a 3.4GHz last year and specifically refused to load Vista.
I’ll hang on to XP for the forseeable future until something better comes along.
Actually, you are still able to buy XP. At Dell its called Vista Plus or Vista Bonus or something like that. You get your machine with XP Pro installed, an XP recovery disk and the Vista disk/upgrade.
Much of the business software in the world is either incompatible with Vista or works very poorly on Vista and Dell and others (including MS) recognize that customers will not replace hardware or move up to the new Office, if they are required to buy Vista.
While Microsoft may have quit selling it, many other vendors will still be selling it. So actually, Microsoft is STILL selling XP.
Vista is very bloated. Even on hot hardware, it runs slowly. Imagine buying a hot new laptop and it runs worse than your four year old desktop - thanks Vista.
The latest service pack for XP actually results in an increase in operational speed.

The Mac sales numbers went up very nicely in response to the release of Vista and the dropping of XP by many of the PC stickers...so I expect you're right.
I am considering a Mac now.
