Fears are growing for the health of Barry Manilow in light of the singers recent drastic weight loss.
According to US magazine Globe, the Copacabana crooner has dropped to around seven stone a dangerously unhealthy weight for his six foot frame.
The 65-year-old singer, who has a residency in Las Vegas, is not known to be ill but has shocked fans and friends with his increasingly gaunt appearance.
Although he may not have any current health problems Manilow's new skinny frame is a cause for concern.
The singer was spotted in LA where he was enjoying a shopping trip with a friend.
His clothes were hanging very loosely off his body in comparison to his male companion.

I saw Barry a few years ago and he looked pretty buffed up. He had obviously been lifting weights. He looks like a Somali now.

Oh my. This is not nor can it be good at all. Losing weight is one thing but...this looks like weight loss none of us would want. Prayers for him if he is ill. Wow.
To: lainie
I am tempted to make fun, but (1) he obviously is not well (as opposed to trying to look healthily slim), plus, (2), I admit liking Manilow during my formative years, when my parents would play his hits in the car sometimes. And I laughed appreciatively when “Hellboy 2” used his cover of “Can’t Smile Without You” for comic relief.
Be well, Barry!

What the hey, did he stay at Auschwitz? Poor guy needs to eat but I’m afraid there is a medical reason he’s so emaciated.
I never liked his music but I never disliked the man. I hope he gets better.

One of my favorite recordings is Barry and Bette Midler, he playing piano and singing back-up while Bette sings “Slow Boat to China.” It’s fairly recent, within the past year or so. VERY well done, and their love of music jumps out at the listener.

Music is, just about, the only thing that can cause me to put aside all of my opinions about a person, with rare exceptions, like Babs, for instance.
That said, I have always enjoyed his musical talent.

That’s what I was thinking too. I don’t think Barry’s going to be with us much longer.

Did you know he wrote the Band-Aid jingle “Stuck on Me?” And the State Farm “like a good neighbor...” one.
Apparently he has been given credit for a ton of them that he didn’t write over the years, but those two are pretty stellar.

7 stones translates to 98 pounds. At 6’ tall, that would give him a BMI of 13.3

I want to say AIDs. Before the "drug cocktails" that a lot of AIDs patients take now to help keep the disease at bay; most AIDs sufferers looked like death camp victims before they died.
I have no idea if the drugs lose their potency after a while, or even if he has AIDs. It is just the first thing that popped into my head when I saw his picture.

Maybe he took Obama’s admonishment to heart, and stopped eating as much as he wanted.
To: puppypusher
Usually uncontrolled Type II diabetes will not cause cachexia this massive. Weight loss of 25-40 lbs in obese individuals is not uncommon. Type I diabetes almost never begins at his age, either.

Yeah, I don’t know. There’s been speculation for years that he’s gay, though a bio says he married his high school sweetheart in 1967 but the marriage didn’t last. I have no idea if he’s gay or has AIDS or what. As has been mentioned, it could be cancer or diabetes — lots of things. Clearly he’s unhealthy looking, regardless.

Agree. He needs his thyroid checked. That's the one that hits your heart, in your 50’s-60’s, without a warning—except the weight loss, and tachycardia. drop dead in mid-mango, and no cardiac issues in the autopsy.
