I can’t ever recall seeing a dog’s teeth like that.

But I’m no vet nor expert.

I see a left hind leg, a right hind leg, the start of a tail, and a continuation of something after the right hind leg intersects with the start of a tail. That continuation is either the tail, or more of the second leg. Although it’s possible that the creature is on top of the bottom portion of its own leg, I believe the “tail” is the remainder of the leg.

looks like a dog or perhaps some ungulate with a rotted away snout (so what looks like a beak is actually the maxilla without any flesh on it.

Anything that’s been in the water dead for a while will lose the hair also.

So many people can’t tell the difference between a wirehaired fox terrier and a schnauzer that I wouldn’t rely on joe six pack to tell me what a half decomposed dog is from a picture from ONE angle.

I think you’re right. I was going to suggest a loser from a dogfighting ring that they wanted to dispose of, but the tail is too long. They wouldn’t fight a dog with an undocked tail unless they were using it as bait for training other fighters. That very well could be this animal’s sad story.

Give me a break. That’s the maxilla showing, devoid of flesh, not a beak.

Weird. They don’t give any size to the animal.

I noticed that too. That is very odd.

I'm thinking it was used to train fighting dogs, maybe had its nose partially ripped off, and got dumped in the water to try to hide the crime. Makes me ill to think of it.

Drowned otter with skin decomp causing loss of fur and partial skull decomp exposing the upper and lower jaws.

It’s really not that hard.

>I don’t recall any of the dog’s skeletons I’ve seen remotely looking like that . . . not those kind of teeth, not the curved beak kind of upper part.

Yes, they DO look that way, especially if the canines are broken off or removed.

You sound like much more of an expert on such than I.

Am quite prepared to bow to your most lofty, learned, munificent, superior, pontifical excellency on such matters.

I'm jist a New Mexican farm boy hick and we ain't had no critters on our farm wash up from the Atlantic nor Pacific nor even the Colorado River.

And I do thank you for the reference pics that I asked for quite a number of posts above. I figured someone could come up with such.

So obviously, yo duh best expert on duh topic.

Actually, I find nothing in the pics at the link provided remotely resembling the pic of the critter in the sand.

Interesting.

I really do believe that’s the more likely scenario, a pitbull a victim of dogfighting and the evidenced dump. Sad, really sad.

It’s gotta be a fake. Anyone with one eye and a grain of sense would have picked it up and put it in a cooler, dead and stinking or not, because it would have been worth a fortune.
