Last Saturday afternoon, less than a day after "Breaking Dawn," the conclusion of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series, hit shelves, the Internet grumblings began. Of course, many readers were still eagerly drinking up the saga of Edward and Bella. But one fast reader expressed her disappointment in the book by launching a discussion on Amazon.com urging fellow disgruntled fans, "Don't burn your copies of the book RETURN THEM."
(SPOILER ALERT, though we'll try to keep them vague for all you slowpokes.) And judging by the heated back-and-forth that followed, there are plenty of other Twilighters complaining about what is or isn't in the book: the lack of more explicit sex scenes, the excessive amount of sex scenes, the implausibility of Bella's pregnancy, the pace of the story, the lack of a big battle scene, the whole Jacob section, and on and on. One blogger told Entertainment Weekly that the story "didn't seem to fit the world that I thought Stephenie Meyer created." So how does the author feel about this venomous reaction to the novel that sold 1.3 million copies in its first day?

Is anybody here reading this series? Never heard of it (or the author) myself. I just think it's funny to see people so up-in-arms they're hoping that returning their copies to a bookstore will take money away from her. I mean, you have to be pretty angry to wish that on an author..lol
My daughter checked the first book out of the library, but she thought it was boring and said the author is a dingbat.
Is that Ms. Meyer? She seems to be pregnant.
[I Post the following under protest, but the wife demanded!]
Well, I read Twilight...and didn’t like it...not my cup of tea, but then again, I prefer John Ringo. My wife on the other hand...she LOVES the series and liked Breaking Dawn and agrees with Ms. Meyer. My wife claims that Edward is a fairly conservative fellow..Personally, I shrug since I do not have a dog in this fight...but I heartily recommend the new John Ringo novel...it skewers a lot of the liberal subset!
daughters loved the series, were disappointed in “breaking dawn”
Once someone has read a book, returning it for a is dishonest.
Just my opinion of course.
She might be, I don’t know. Wiki says she already has three kids.
Cool! Thanks for the input. And thank your demanding wife :)
I share your opinion. I’ve never even thought about returning a book for a refund. This lady must have some fickle fans, or else that book must be pretty terrible.
Obviously somebody loved the series, or the books wouldn’t be selling so well.
My little sister loved the first three books - I read them, and nothing special. The main character (and most of the other characters) seem incapable of forming healthy relationships, the writing is mediocre, the pacing is horribly slow, etc, etc. After reading all three books, I honestly thought the series was over, and I have no desire at all to read Breaking Dawn. Although, some of the events do directly break the rules Stephenie Meyer created for her vampires... and, from what I’ve heard of the plot and ending, the plot seems like bad fanfiction and the ending is a complete cop-out.
Just a reminder: the Washington Post allows only links and short excerpts, whether in article posts or replies.
Sorry, forgot that didn’t just apply to new articles.
Last Centurion?
Read samples looked good.
Yeah, I sprung for a ARC version and read it...very good.
To be perfectly honest, being a grown adult myself with no children, I’ve read all 4 books. I’ve found them fairly good. I liked them. They’re those kind of books that you read when you want to get out of the real world for a while and not have to focus on the stresses around you. Granted I wouldn’t say that children under the age of 13 should read this 4th and final book for the “sex” scenes, I believe that the book is fine enough not to put such thoughts in the child’s head. It does have morals enough to teach you not to have sex or marry at such a young age. The book is purely fantasy fiction. There are no such things as vampires nor werewolves. Why anyone would spend the time to complain and return a book because THEY didn’t like it, give it to someone else who might. That’s just my opinion, make whatever you want out of it.
