More than 25 percent of adults are obese in 28 states, an increase from 19 states last year, Trust for Americas Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reported in their fifth annual obesity survey. More than 20 percent of adults are obese 30 pounds or more overweight in every state except Colorado.
Nine of the Top 10 fattest states are in the south. Mississippi leads the pack with an adult obesity rate of 31.7 percent, according to the report, which is a follow-up analysis of the annual Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Fatter in 37 states? what about the other 20?"
"More fried chicken and hush puppies, please..."
“Report: Americans Fatter in 37 States” *ping*
I’ve lost 25 pounds this year. Started riding my bike to work.
It really is a problem, not only in the States, but throughout the Western world. As much as I would like to crack a joke about this, or state that it’s everyone’s freedom to eat what they want (which happens to be true, by the way), that wouldn’t diminish the gravity of the situation.
I’m inclined to make a connection with the hugely successful campaign against smoking and the rise in obesity. Both in the end are oral addictions, and may even be ‘rewarded’ in the same brain centers (e.g. the so-called mesolimbic system).
If this were true, then, strange as it may sound, I’d call moderate smoking the lesser of the two evils. It doesn’t impair your life as much, the number of diseases contractable may be roughly equal, and perhaps one’s life expectancy is even longer in the case of moderate smoking.
But in the end, I don’t know. I’ll give it some more thought.
I’m guessing obesity rates and welfare/food stamp rolls go hand in hand.
thats a diet coke right?
when i was a kid I worked at a supermarket and the fattest people would come through the checkoutline with carts full of junkfood and bottles of diet soda, I never understood it.
Second only to being over sexed as a problem. :-)

"And Leon's getting LAAAAARGER!"
Dude, that picture reminds me of Sally Struthers.
Is that Ed ‘The Red’ Asner in that photo? He actually once admitted on Hannity and Colmes that he was a communist.
That’s from the movie Airplane!, Ed Asner wasn’t in it.
I was gonna make a joke about people being fat in 53 states according to the Obama Campaign, but ya ruint it for me! :-D
Lucky you. I started going to the gym 3 times a week in January, ate more fruit and vegetables and whole grains, and less meat and processed grains, and started riding my bike to work 2-3 days a week last month. How much weight have I lost? Zero. And I'm supposedly 40 pounds overweight by BMI.
PING!
