Nobody shoots more or practices harder than pro level practical shooters. Not even SF.
For the most part, the best special operators are trained by guys like Todd Jarrett, Bennie Cooley and Matt Burkett - guys that earned their credentials winning matches.
Good info. I was out of practice..time just got away from me. I didnt realize how rusty I had become till I was out shooting one day. It was an eye opener.
But lucky for you...
LOL
I have been lucky enough to just show my HOLSTERED weapon and difuse the situation. Push the situation, forcing me draw it, then the odds are someone is going to get shot. The last thing I want is to have my revolver in my hand and for it NOT to be pointed at some, about to recoil. If I allow the threat to get that close and haven’t killed him, that would indicate someone else has done it for me.

From marktwain:
I am glad that you were able to avoid a shooting. It is the more common experience. In a number of states, however, just showing that you have a firearm can be effectively the same as “brandishing”. I put “brandishing” in quotes because we do not have a “brandishing” statute in Arizona, but there probably is a state that has such.
One thing that has stood out to me in the past several years is this: Criminals lie. There is a disturbing trend for criminals, when thwarted in a crime, to call the police and complain about how someone with a gun threatened them. Montana and Arizona have put forward legislation to redress this issue by explicitly making it legal to display a firearm in the act of self defense. I do not believe that this legislation has yet passed in either state.
Displaying a gun can have consequences, but we always have to weigh the benefits and costs.
Where does that leave me in the mix?
Duane Thomas would be the one to ask, not me.
Righteous rage. Beautiful when harnassed with lethal force.
You can effectively practice at a regular outdoor range. The whole idea that you have to be a Navy Seal to defend yourself is just plain stupid BS.
No offense, but threads like this typically bring out the mall-ninja types. So far it looks like it’s going OK.
Those first person shooter PlayStation games are a lot of fun.
Yes, and ammo is a funny thing too. Using too little can get you into trouble. Use too much and well.......
“Burglars and robbers are not going to step on the kids noisemaking toys twice. You only get one warning when things go wrong. If you hear the WRONG sound when you should NOT be hearing it consider that your ONE AND ONLY WARNING. Thats when you have to act. Are you prepared to do so?”
Um... Yes. If someone breaks into my house I’m quite prepared to act. That’s a damned dumb question.
What do I win?
“If you pull your weapon out and dont fire it, in most cases thats likely to be considered brandishng.”
... which is exactly the right action in some situations. Brandishing a legal firearm isn’t illegal if you are threatened with bodily harm.
>What do I win?<
The freedom to keep breathing until the next thug steps up and thinks you are too cool.
True but the right DA can make you prove you were threatened with bodily harm. Can’t prove it. Oh dear, there goes your ticket to carry concealed.
“The freedom to keep breathing until the next thug steps up and thinks you are too cool.”
If you pull your weapon, you need to be prepared to use it. It isn’t a requirement. I would prefer not to kill anyone, but if I have to fire, it’s going to be 4 rounds: two rounds to the chest, one to the groin and one to the head. Then I’ll stop shooting and reassess the situation.
“True but the right DA can make you prove you were threatened with bodily harm.”
I seem to remember something about being judged by 12 men instead of being carried by 6. If you are pulling a gun in a situation where the threat isn’t obvious, you shouldn’t be pulling a gun. If you pull a gun in an obvious self defense situation and the DA prosecutes, you should have moved out of Massachusetts much sooner.
The shotgun and pistols are where I can find them in the dark. The only ones in the house are the dogs and me and I doubt they can jack a round in. A bear did try to get in one night and the next day I got the shotgun out, Slugs and 00 alternating for unexpected intrusion.
