Wifey and I have drawn our line in the sand. DVD is as far as we'll go for our "underneath the TV" format. If DVD goes the way of the 8-Track, so be it; we'll do without.
Amen to that. Got 1990' technology in the entertainment center at the moment (SDTV / DVD). I will admit that it's about time to buy some more though. I mean hell ... 10 years? That's longer lasting than most cars.
Now, if you were planning on upgrade to an HDTV, then yes, blu-ray VS. DVD makes a HUGE difference. But again, only if you upgrade.
VHS here, and no cable either. Alas, no rabbit ears either. I have a wire connection to the building antenna. 8 channels, who needs more?
Blu-ray gives better resolution than over the air high definition (some discs are better than others).
If you have a HDTV and you don’t have a blu-ray player, you don’t know what you’re missing, it also upconverts dvd’s. Blockbuster rents blu-rays now too.
In my youth in the 1970s for some reason I became enthralled with quadraphonic sound. I thought this is the ultimate. 2 times better than stereo. Granted the systems developed for it were as usual incompatible among different makes and on the whole it didn’t work very well. (Imagine trying to get 4 discrete channels out of a two sided record groove) So while I really wanted one by the time I had enough money to buy one the thing had gone the way of the dodo bird. I did succumb to betamax however. Still have that one and it works but HDTV kind of makes it gather a lot of dust these days.
If you really care that little about consumer electronics and entertainment, why are you even reading and posting in this thread?
