I think it was the European Press who published photoshopped nude pics of Tiger’s wife - yeah - they’re real classy.

Chants of USA are inappropriate while the other contestant is still on the green attempting to putt out

I enjoy watching golf just as I liked to watch the pro bowlers tour. The bowlers tour recognized the fact that they had become boring with the hush hush mentality and the crowds sitting behind the lanes and in an effort to add excitement to the events, they closed off the lanes and allowed the crowd to line the alleys and show their exuberance while the contestants were in action.

Maybe its time the tour climb off their high horses and shake off their cloaks of elitism start catering to the average beer drinking bums. Without these bums the tour would be nothing.........

Lefty Mickelson pretty much sealed it with me when he admonished a photographer for "clicking pictures" when he was chipping on to the green.............

Golf is nothing more than a spectator sport and as far as I'm concerned, the sport needs me the spectator more than it needs the golfer. It's time the PGA starts allowing the fans to have some fun.........

Actually, silence is not required to play golf any more than it is required to hit a baseball. The problem with golf is silence, punctuated by cameras going off like machine guns in the midst of the backswing causes a startle reaction and gives the player an excuse for a poor shot.

A steady level of “noise” is part of the PGA Tour. It is the cheers and cameras that cause problems.

The nationalistic cheering has been part of the Ryder Cup (both sides) for as long as I can remember. I believe that it actually helps keep the home team pumped up and I have no reason to see it change. I have attended every major at least once as well as several Ryder Cups. The RC is the most fun event I have seen.

Lighten up Doc, life is short and meant to be enjoyed. I'm and older golfer, 57 to be exact, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Ryder Cup. I especially enjoyed watching three young guys, namely Boo Weekly, Anthony Kim and the Kentucky Bomber. Their enthusiasm and obvious love of their country was pure just like that occasional 4 iron that I hit 200 yards right at the pin.

I also enjoyed Kenny Perry and his family and got a big kick out of Kenny's Dad in his bib overalls. And Furyk was not only awesome on the course Sunday but his dispaly of emotion made me a bigger fan.

The team was great, the crowd was great and the outcome was great.

USA USA USA USA.......

I never understood why golfers need absolute silence to hit a ball that is standing still, while a baseball player has 50,000 fans scrwaming at him while he tries to hit a ball moving at 90+ mph.

In baseball you don't have to play your foul balls.

true that.

Maybe if the ballplayer had to hit the baseball into a coffee can set out near the center field fence?

Kenny Perry is my favorite. I started watching him a few years ago when I noticed his tee to green stats were about as good as Tiger’s, plus he grew up in Paducah. It was good to see him define his career the way he wanted on a course where he bad memories.

if it is in new york then that’s what they do.......

Be careful. The Manhattanites and Brownstone Brooklynites (most of whom are transplants from flyover country) will try to claim that "Staten Islanders/Lawn Guylanders" are NOT true New Yorkers like they are.

I’ll take a fat, obnoxious redneck over a snooty elitist any day. Later, Judge Smails.

Well done Z! I guess Sergio was just beimg as emotional as the fans were.
More than once, Mark Rolfing said that there were no instances of any bad things directed at Lee, or any Euorpean player. He was only walking the course, so maybe he wouldn?t know.

No problem with the celebration. They won/ they deserved it. The play and emotion of AK and Boo were special. As was the play of Ian Poulter. He carried that team on his back.

I think Payne is still handing out Crystal by the bottle. For Paul, and the rest of the team, he was always in their minds.

THIS ONE’S FOR PAYNE!!!!

I am pleased that the match between Jim Furyk and Miguel Angel Jiménez ended up being the deciding match. The way the concession was handled at the end was a class act. Something we don't see much of in high profile sports anymore.

Doc, I've been playing since I was 12. I also have played some of the niceset places in the country, including 2 unbelievable sub-par rounds at Pebble. I have caddyed for people like Doug Sanders(a joke a minute, and believe it or not a chick magnet), and John Dent, who was asked to stop using his driver on the range because he was breaking windows on the houses at the end of the range.

I've watched Lee Trevino putt and pitch and that wonderful, saintly, gentle man, Chi-Chi Rodriguez inspire youngsters with his presence, humor and humility.

I've played in best ball tournements and taught fundamental mechanics to begininers in those groups that enabled them to win prizes they didn't think they were capable of. I've seen the crowds go from mannerly to boisterous, loud, drunk and obnoxious.

The PGA and the USGA need to impose rules, and enforcement of those rules. No alchohol on the course, players or fans. Drunken displays, rude behavior, and the like should be escorted to the clubhouse or off the course entirely.

The game will never go back to the polite days of Bobby Jones, or Arnie's Army, but there are ways to control it. The game, as with all competitive sports, has turned into a money venture, and an equipment race. But the players, who understand the game and the history they share with those of the past, should be demanding these changes.

"You know what pressure is? Pressure is playing for $2 a hole when you only have $2 in your pocket."

Watching A. Kim thoroughly kick Sergio’s posterior yesterday was the highlight of the tourney for me. ....along with watching that wanker Faldo stammer, stutter, and attempt to hold back tears of grief and embarrassment in his post-tourney interview.

My favorite match of the whole event. AK was completely dialed in all day and he got the crowds going. Golf has completely changed. While not the first one to do it, Tiger Woods and his fist pumping and high-fiving turned it into a spectator participatory sport. Should the crowds yell and chant during the opposing teams shots? No. SHould they politely clap when a guy is playing his ass off for his country completely stiffs a 78 yard wedge in the most pressure packed moment of his life to virtually secure the Ryder Cup? Hell no. The crowds were awesome and added a great and fun element to the game. Those sorts of things are why the popularity of golf has exploded over the last 15 years.

Good article. Thanks for posting, Baynative.

Where's Doc Savage? 'Tis rare to post a golf thread and then flee the thread. Come back. We'll give you a chance to concede the hole! We won't make you putt like that nasty Anthony Kim did to the saintly Sergio Garcia.

AK did all the right things. He got in Garcia’s gourd early and Sergio couldn’t handle it. Nice to see his whiny Euro butt taken to the woodshed.
