Christian radio is being courted by an unfamiliar party – the Democrats

Washington Post religion writer Michelle Boorstein says “a concerted effort to reach into Christian Medialand has intensified recently and will continue beyond the November election.” That means Obama ads on Christian radio stations in Ohio, using a faith-based quote from former Congressman Tony Hall: “As a Christian, Barack believes God calls us to care for those in need.”

There’s also a new push to evangelize the Democratic party to Christian artists, and EMI Christian Music Group Grant Hubbard tells Boorstein “I think it would be shocking to a lot of people [that] if you interviewed Christian artists, the split would be pretty even” between Republicans and Democrats. Though he says the consumers of the music are more like 80-20. The Dems are hoping to bring those connections more out into the open. But, from the article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/18/AR2008091803732.html?sub=AR "'Listeners are "unmistakably" conservative, particularly on issues of when life begins and of marriage," says Joe Davis, president of the radio division for Salem Communications, the country's largest Christian radio broadcaster, with shows going to 2,000 affiliates."

-------------------------------- (Salem also has more than a few conservative talk stations with hosts like Mike Gallagher, Dennis Praeger, Hugh Hewitt, and Michael Medved. Can the Dems woo Christian radio listeners?

Seriously, If the Democratic Party were to become more Judaeo-Christian friendly, that wouldn't be a bad thing. Of course they would need to toss about 90% of their supporters off of a cliff.
