My friends,
If John McCain wins this election (and I pray he does), do you think he will have learned any lasting lessons about, oh, say the media, campaign finance regulations, reaching across the aisle....?
Just wondering.
I bet he has. I bet he is shocked at their treatment of him. I still think he will govern as a ‘reach across the aisle’ guy. That is who he is.
He’s learned the hard way that public financing for campaigns is a fool’s idea.
No
If MeCain wins, it will be because of Governor Sarah Palin and the Conservative Base!!
Perhaps the time he has spent campaigning outside the beltway will allow him to lose his taste for the bitter “kool-aid”. McCain-Feingold was predicated on a balanced press. How foolish it must seem now. How dangerous it will be if the “fairness doctrine” is reinstated.

'cause I'm shuttin' up.
If he wins, I hope he remembers who put him there....and, who turned on him.
Perhaps he will take a look at his running mate and realize that conservatism IS popular.
Or, maybe not.
I think he probably has but I still think we’re going to have our hands full with him. Thank God Sarah Palin will be there...I hope she can mitigate against some of his worst proclivities.
If he's learned that, everything else will fall into place.
I don't say he HAS learned it. I just hope.
I would say that he has learned that the media is not his friend and that is about it!
He will still reach across the aisle. Democrats in the administration.
He is better than the alternative which would take us down a road we don’t want to go down.
Sarah is our only hope—maybe he will listen to her I hope!
McCain now realizes that the NYT never really loved him, despite their long and ardent affair.
Don’t forget that McCain is a “Maverick”, so don’t expect him to react in a manner we would deem rational..
If he makes a distinction between PUMAs and ObamaMarxists, that isn't necessarily a huge problem.
I can only pray he has learned. I doubt very much he has. I can only pray that this has brought him to the realization that he needs to do what is RIGHT for this country. There are very positive signs. ALL I DO KNOW is that McCain is better than the alternative.
Running against the $600 Million Dollar Man has to have proved to him that the critics of McCain-Feingold were right.
And judging by the comments of Mark Salter, his closest aide, I’d say the affair with the press is over (they were turning on him because of Iraq even before the campaign).
If he’s elected, I think he’ll be good on Iraq, the nuts in Iran and North Korea, and the WOT. He’ll also make an effort to get a grip on spending.
But we’ll have to be ready to fight again on amnesty, among other issues. We’ll also have to watch him on the courts. McCain apparently has deferred to Kyl on nominations for the courts, so his advisors on that subject will be critical.
When Palin drags him across the finish line the first thing he should do is clear the federal courts of all Carter and Clinton appointees. Then he needs to investigate ACORN and other tax exempt organizations that openly broke campaign law.
