Shook McCain's Hand Today(Vanity)
11/03/2008 | Tidbit

I volunteered at the McCain rally today in Indianapolis. I ended up at the front, alongside the "corridor" between the tarmac and the stage.

We saw the entire entourage: Senators Graham, Lieberman, and Martinez; Cindy McCain, Megan, and of course, The Mack! They all looked great. Perhaps a little tired around the eyes, but this is not a loser's tour. Those people were all energized and upbeat. None of it was a put-on, either. Their smiles lit up their faces. John McCain looks much better working a crowd than he does on a stage. He clearly is comfortable when he's among regular folks.

I don't know how it worked this way, but I shook hands with EVERY single one of them. We actually exchanged quite a few words with Megan, Sen. Graham, and Sen. Martinez. I gotta think that if their internals weren't looking good they wouldn't have had exhibited such obvious enthusiasm.

The highlight of my day is that Senator McCain signed my copy of his book, Character is Destiny. He also spoke to me, saying: "I'm so glad that you're here today." I told him, "Likewise sir, God bless you."

That’s an awesome story.

I have also noticed that McCain and crew have seen a little more upbeat recently, compared with Obama looking a little more glum.

I am hoping this is a sign that they know something we don’t.

Pretty cool.

I heard Dickie Morris say the smartest thing ever a few minutes ago:

Nobody knows how this election will shake out, this many voters, new voters, yadayada.

I BETCHA they have good polling numbers.

I was stuck on the I277 exit 1E ramp waiting to go to my hotel because Obama as in Charlotte and the police had the traffic stopped.

I know exactly what you mean about the energy and enthusiaism. I was at a GOTV Rally on Thursday in Gulfport for Sen. Roger Wicker and First Lady Laura Bush was the headliner. A smallish venue, the room was packed and we all had the opportunity to speak with Gov. Barbour, the Wickers, Sen. Cochran and at the end, to the First Lady herself. She is so much more beautiful in person and has been so good to us down here. What an honor!
Whatever happens tomorrow, I am proud of the leadership we’ve had and know that our ideals will ultimately prevail.

we were at the mccain rally a few weeks in denver. first one we have ever been too. we were both moved when we saw mccain walk to the stage from the side door. we were literally within feet of him. you could see him walk with a slight limp, but you could see a man who believed in himself and his country. we were not mccain supporters at first, but have to come to appreciate him for what he is. my wife was literally speechless after the rally. she has never been into politics like i have, but something special happened that day. we voted early, she wears her palin shirt and we both believe we are going to win. we just can’t believe otherwise for the future of our country or our kids.

Yee haw. It sounds minor, but it's a brush with history and quite a thrill.

I got to shake Vice President Quayle's hand at Princeton U way back when. I still remember it vividly, including one protester who got out of hand and was tackled by a state police officer and held down with a knee to the back of the neck. I'm all for free speech, but that punk sounded like a dangerous jackass and deserved it. It was a beautiful sight.

Good for you. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure they are in good spirits.

They should be. They're going to win tomorrow!

Mcain and Palin are happy because its a fight with a well defined set of terms.
Obama wanted to keep the terms murky.
The american people by and large will vote for good over evil. they just have a hard time with Grey areas sometimes.....

Not to rain on your parade, just the facts....I was kicked out of McCain’s D.C. Senate office in May 2006 over the Open Borders issue...I WILL be voting for him tomorrow (keep your friends close, etc.) and day after that I WILL be doing everything I can to hold his (any/every public servant’s) feet to the fire and help the grassroots close the gates...

On the other hand, I DID get to shake Ronald Reagan’s hand during his first POTUS campaign at the Victorville, CA County Fairgrounds.

Sorry. Here’s an umbrella ;^)
