Opinions Please - Should I get a CCW permit? (Vanity)

Posted on 11/07/2008 8:20:24 AM PST by chickpundit

I have been wanting to pursue a CCW permit for a while. I just wonder if it's a good idea in an Obama administration. Will I be an easier target for gun confiscation if I'm a registered CCW holder?

It will be confiscated a heck of a lot sooner if you’re pulled over and it is deemed to be concealed, as well as other possible ramifications. I got mine a couple months ago.

If I had a CWC, I’d “lose” the gun and turn in the permit.

Hopefully the 2nd amendment won't be repealed while That 0ne is in office. I say do it.

Handgun purses are a great way to carry.

I think FR should issue permits for vanities.

I’d get the permit. It will take a while, I’d guess, for a federal law contradicting the second and 10th amendments to get approved by even an Obama court. And in the meantime you’ll have another margin of self-directed responsibility for your safety.

If not now...when?

YOU are responsible for your own protection. No one else.

I follow the law, and will not conceal my pistol unless and until I get a license. Just wondering if being registered that way makes me more of a target.

Yes and yes.

That is why one should have more than one ‘item’ but then again maybe is just me.

I hope my daughter will get one. She was driving the children to school this morning and was almost run down by Obama supporters. They were cussing her out and yelling out racial words to her while trying to run her off the road. We called the police but theres really nothing they can do sense she was not able to get a tag number for the car.
This is going to be a long 4 years..

part of it depends on your state. doesn’t matter one way or another if your state has registration on handguns, you’ll be targeted anyway.

Get it . In my jurisdiction a permit holder can buy weapons with no further checking and waiting . That alone makes the permit worth it IMHO . When pulled over the first words out of your mouth should be you have a permit and wait for instructions from the officer . The police appreciate it so much they seem to get over the “us against them” attitude . If the Stalinists start using CCW and FFL records to facilitate confiscation the big game is on anyway .

Someone the other day recommended to a FReeper in CA that they not get one and just take their chances. My husband just got his in October. We are in CO. I actually encouraged him to pursue it although it didn’t take much. Your question has come up in my mind too, but I think we did the right thing by getting it.

Get it.

If they try to confiscate, just say your guns were stolen.

Uh.....you’ll have to hide the guns somewhere off property before the soldiers with German Shepherds show up.

Don’t wait another minute. The leftists cannot confiscate guns thanks to Heller, but they will regulate ammo, gun shows and dealers. They will create so much obfuscation, ordinary people will be deterred.

Remember, an armed person is a citizen. An unarmed person is a subject.

I would get it if you feel you need it, not because of 0bama. Worst case scenario: 0bama bans ownership of firearms. It won’t matter if you have a permit or not. Every gun owner would be a “criminal” in that case. Good luck trying to arrest us all.

The CCW goes with you, not with the weapons you own. They are registered separately at the time of purchase.

Presumably, anyone with a CCW or a registered gun will be thoroughly searched when confiscation time rolls around.
Presumably, we will be expected to produce every gun we have REGISTERED at the minimum.

If you currently own unregistered guns, I personally would avoid getting a CCW and be sure to only carry in the open if at all. If all the guns you currently own are registered, then it is convenient to have your CCW in case you accidentally throw a book on top of your pistol lying on the front seat of the car and to be less intimidating in public.

You are allowed to open-carry without a CCW. But if you are going to conceal those guns away from your property in ANY way, you better have a permit.

Does all this make sense?
