Vanity Gun Question: Bushmaster Carbine Question (ORC)
11/14/08 | Jace

I so love my wife, she's awesome, and for my birthday, she bought me a Bushmaster ORC with a scope.

A Baraska 3X9X50mm Scope.

It's looks good on the carbine! But I've never heard of Baraska scopes, I'm gonna google it and see what I can find! Has anyone else heard of them?

If I can be honest, I wanted to ask all you Freepers if a Baraska scope, is a good scope!

I have no idea, never heard of it! It's kinda large on the rifle, but I was wondering if I should take it off, return it, put another scope on it, or keep it!

Any reccomendations?

Gonna go take it tomorrow to my local gun club and try it out (after cleaning it of course tomorrow morning).

“Baraska” = Barska. And no, they are not “good” scopes. Bushmaster is a great brand, but Barska is like putting a Taco Bell chalupa a side to your filet. Try an Eotech, Aimpoint, Trijicon, or Leupold.

Take the scope off. It’ll just slow you down.....

You should ditch it and go with a Trijicon ACOG... I used it in the military and use it now for my AR15 Carbine. Here is an excerpt from the website http://www.trijicon.com:

The ACOGs are internally-adjustable, compact telescopic sights with tritium illuminated reticle patterns for use in low light or at night. Bindon Aiming Concept (BAC)* models feature bright daytime reticles using fiber optics which collect ambient light. The ACOGs combine traditional, precise distance marksmanship with close-in aiming speed. Although the ACOGs have many features which are very advantageous for military use, they were developed by Trijicon without government funding.
Designed for use with the M16 family, every feature of its mechanical and optical design was chosen for a single purpose: to provide increased hit potential in all lighting conditions — without failure-prone batteries.

good advice jackie. I have 4 eo’s above 4 different blacks and each one performs great. yes they are very expensive optics but worth every penny.

The Trjicon is a fantastic option but the cost could ecxeed the price of the rifle. If they can afford it full speed ahead.

Yeah, cost is a factor for sure... I figured personally, since guns are about to be forbidden, that I would go ahead and get “the works”.

I’d buy an EOTech or Aimpoint instead, and with the difference I’d buy a bunch of ammo and mags. ACOGs are great if Uncle Sam is buying.

If can buy a Trijicon without putting the family in debt you should. But remember the basics. Good iron sights on a good weapon will get the job done for self defense.

Thank you all! I don’t want to spend alot of money. Especially more than the cost of the actual rifle! I don’t want a “high end” scope, but I don’t want a “crap” scope either. So send it back, and pay a little more for something that is better?

Leopold is a good company... maybe you can see how much you want to spend and then look at their scopes to see which ones are in range. ACOGs are a little on the expensive side...

Speaking of carbines, has anyone ever used a Hi Point? I use and like their pistols, but have no experience with the carbine models.

I think I can still return it, plus I’ll talk to the guy’s at the gun club tomorrow! So maybe that’s what I will do. I’ll look in to the one’s that everyone has mentioned (price being a big factor right now)!

A man after my own heart. The best sight in the world isn't worth a crap if don't have anything to send down the barrel.
